Description:

Frieda and her siblings and mom were rescued from a high kill shelter. These precious puppies are so cute and loving!

Foster Update:  She is the smallest of the three. She has a smaller build than her siblings. Frieda is very playful and very well socialized. She likes to be held and to have her belly rubbed. She gets along well with our dogs. We do not have a cat. She is a calm dog. She knows her name and will come when called. She walks well on a leash and pulls now. She should improve with more training.  She is improving with house training.  We have a fenced yard and they have been spending more time outside in the yard . We have a large pen that they can run and play in as well.  She has a great appetite. She is fed 1/3 can of Pedigree Puppy can food and approx.. 1 ½ cup of dry Pedigree Puppy food in the am.  In the evening she will receive 1 ½ dry puppy Pedigree with ½ cup of Yogurt. Sometimes when she is eating and one of her siblings ventures toward her bowl, she will growl at them. I just tell her No and she will continue to eat. She loves treats. I use Medium size dog bones and medium size rawhide chew sticks.  After eating , they will go into the yard to play. I stay with them or they follow me back into their pen. They have plenty of time to do their business in the yard. I will take them into the yard 3-4 times a day. When they are in the pen which is outside as well they play there. They can come into the house and they will do this as well. In the house they are pretty much paper trained. Occasional accidents, but this happens.  In her playing with other dogs, she is submissive. We have a dog who plays with them when they are outside.  She is a great little dog. They had a  very rough start after being rescued by Judy. Their mother, Viktoria, was very, very skinny. The puppies had manage and had to be isolated for 4-6 weeks as the manage was contagious. The mange has been treated and their hair that was lost has come back in. She is a beautiful dog. Frieda will make a great friend to a family.

*** According to www.dogbreedinfo.com, the Labrador Retriever is a loving, affectionate, lovable, patient dog. Once known as the "St John's Dogs," the Labrador Retriever is one of the most popular breeds in the United States. Originally from Newfoundland, Canada the Labrador was trained to jump overboard into the icy waters to haul fisherman's nets to shore. Specimens were brought to England in the 1800's by English ships coming from Labrador, where the dog's fine retrieving instincts were honed and developed. One of the best family dogs and canine companions because of their gentle, loving disposition, the highly trainable Labrador also excels in drug detection, as a guide for the blind, and service dog for the disabled. The breed is also an outstanding obedience and field trial competitor. Highly intelligent, loyal, willing, and high-spirited. Lively and good-natured, they love to play, especially in water - for they love to swim. They have an excellent, reliable, temperament and are friendly, superb with children and equable with other dogs. They crave human attention and need to feel as though they are part of the family. Labs are easily trained. These dogs are watchdogs, not guard dogs, although some have been known to guard. They have a life expectancy of 10-12 years.
