Description:

Greta and her siblings and mom were rescued from a high kill shelter. These precious puppies are so cute and loving!

Foster Update:
Greta is a beautiful little dog. She is the largest of the puppies. Her mother is a Rottie and of course they do not know the dog who bred her. The puppies are all black. Greta is a very calm girl. She seems to assess the situation before she acts. She is very playful, especially with her siblings. She comes to her name when called. She frightens easily especially in unknown situations to her. She is doing pretty well on a leash. This will improve with time. She appears to be crate trained. The pups are taken outside into their large pen first thing in the AM.  I then feed them and let them into the yard so they can play and do their business. This is done 4-5 times a day and this has helped with potty training. When confined to the house in evening they are paper trained. There are less accidents in the house on this routine.  Greta loves to have her tummy rubbed. She is playful and well socialized. She certainly likes to eat. She is a big girl. She is fed canned and dry Pedigree puppy dog food.  In the morning she is given 1/3 can of canned food and 2 cups of dry dog food. In the evening she is given 2 cups of dry food and ½ cup plain yogurt. They are given treats throughout the day. This includes medium size milk bone biscuits and rawhide chew sticks. They are always hungry and are chewing on anything.  I have noticed that when she is outside she is the first to bark at a strange sound or something out of the norm to her. She loves playing with our dogs in our home. We do not have a cat so I cannot assess that situation.  Greta will be a great addition to a family.  She will love you and become a great friend.

*** According to www.dogbreedinfo.com, the Labrador Retriever is a loving, affectionate, lovable, patient dog. Once known as the "St John's Dogs," the Labrador Retriever is one of the most popular breeds in the United States. Originally from Newfoundland, Canada the Labrador was trained to jump overboard into the icy waters to haul fisherman's nets to shore. Specimens were brought to England in the 1800's by English ships coming from Labrador, where the dog's fine retrieving instincts were honed and developed. One of the best family dogs and canine companions because of their gentle, loving disposition, the highly trainable Labrador also excels in drug detection, as a guide for the blind, and service dog for the disabled. The breed is also an outstanding obedience and field trial competitor. Highly intelligent, loyal, willing, and high-spirited. Lively and good-natured, they love to play, especially in water - for they love to swim. They have an excellent, reliable, temperament and are friendly, superb with children and equable with other dogs. They crave human attention and need to feel as though they are part of the family. Labs are easily trained. These dogs are watchdogs, not guard dogs, although some have been known to guard. They have a life expectancy of 10-12 years.
