Animal Success Stories

Second only to finding homes for our animals is the joy of hearing back from their new families.  We invite you to read along with us.  If you should decide to open up your heart and home to one of our angels, please send us a note and photo to tell us how it is going!  We will post it on this page so others can share in your happiness.

Shirley the Dachshund
Shirley the Dachshund

Judy: About a month ago we rescued our little dog from you. She was named Shirley, but we changed her name to Snuggles. She is part dachshund and part chocolate lab. As you can see from the picture, she settled in quite nicely in our home. Our other dog, who was also a rescue, is Georgia. She is part Boston Terrier and part whippet. They are now best buddies. We wanted you to see for yourself. Looking forward to Christmas with these two pals. Merry Christmas to you and your staff. Ken and Darlene Hawes

We are so happy to have Leo and Sheska. It appears they never forgot each other. We have changed Sheska's name to Peanut because she's so tiny. Leo's name is still Leo because it fits him. Leo the lion. Both kitties are so sweet and very playful with each other. Our other 3 kitties love watching them chase each other and play. I am attaching some photos of Peanut. I keep trying to catch them together but they move so fast. LOL! ~ Wendy Wayne

Sally-Sue the Puppy

Hi, I got my owners (Jim and Marilyn Paine) to attach some pictures of me. I'm excited to tell you my rescue story. At Judy's I was called Sally-Sue the Puppy; now I'm known as Lexi. My folks said they saw my picture and read about me online. They also said that it was the quick, informative, and warm email contact with people like Colleen and Maggie that encouraged them to come see me at PRBJ. When they came, they fell in love with me, and I fell in love with them. I slept all the way home in the car so I could do lots of exploring when I got there. I "accidently" fell in the swimming pool twice so I could see what it was like! Now that I'm older (4+ months) I have learned many things like staying out of the pool, playing with MY toys (not theirs), and going outside to ____. I've also met many neighbor dogs, including a guide dog and another rescue puppy. I also learned that one of my owners has cancer; he says I am a comfort to him and help him take his mind off of his worries. I still have much to learn and do, but I wanted to tell you that I am very happy here. It's been a HUGE SUCCESS for all of us. Warmly, Lexi (AKA Sally-Sue the Puppy)

Shader the Loving Survivor ~ VIDEO
Shader the Loving Survivor ~ VIDEO

I guess he's decided to stay. lol He's had few problems. He's terrified of black buckets. He's frightened of dragonflys too. That brought a low growl out of him. He loves the young steer next door. They swap spit & run the length of the fence together. I need to get pictures of him kissing the cow. He's got a ton of new toys, that he loves dearly. He has no desire for raw foods but took to my cooked dog food eagerly. He's a chow hound, for sure. There's been no aggression towards my ferret. But, they have only been allowed to sniff each other. They will not be spending time together, I only wanted to know if Shader would knock down the wall to get him. He is uninterested in him. Good. He's not attracted to the chickens either. He can be off leash around them. He is supervised anyway. Why risk an accident. Tow of the three cats have accepted him. The other is a bitch (said lovingly) and tolerates his presence. She's been the alpha for a while and is not eager to back down a notch. When the neighbors dogs bark at the fence, he'll bark back, but doesn't go to the fence. He just doesn't care about them. He's not frightened, he just knows that this is his home and they aren't part of it. I am very happy that we were allowed to adopt him. We make a good family. Ruth
