Scooby Du is a precious little MinPin. This pumpkin was found on the streets.... Well, how about I let his rescuer tell you? Here we go:
"This is a brief history on my little orphan Scooby Du. This little Min Pin was running loose down my street with only a frayed collar and no tag on . He finally came to me after much encouragement and treats. I leashed him and called him Scooby Du and have tried to find him a home for about two weeks. Lisa and Jennifer have helped me also. We have not been successful at this point. He is medically ready to be adopted into loving home. He has been neutered and received all shots including a booster he will get before he arrives June 24th . Scooby has had advantage applied today and is current on heartworm pills , with him is a 5 month supply. He has 1 month advantage treatment extra with his records and things. His crate was donated to him by a neighbor and for his care. He uses the bathroom outside when allowed to do so. He cannot last through the night. I am sure using his crate he will and can be potty trained. I have not crated him overnight. However he seems acquainted with the crate and during a storm he crated himself. He has wonderful eye contact and learns very quickly, he knows the command sit, back, (away from doors) and gives a friendly shake. He is friendly to other dogs he meets when we are on our walks. And he his protective and barks at strangers that come to “his” home. He does not like to be picked up by strangers. He is a sweet, affectionate and very active little puppy that loves young people. The vet says he is about 1 year old. I am sorry I cannot keep him. ~ Jean"
Thank you, Jean, for rescueing this little fellow and doing so much to help him get ready for his forever home. We will do our best to make sure it is the perfect one!
6/30 Update:
Scooby Du accompanied Judy to her radio interview on 1310AM. He spent the hour sitting on the lap of Todd of Pack Life K-9 Behaviors Solutions. Todd was so taken by Scooby Du that he announced on the air that he would donate two free sessions to whomever adopted our little guy! Wow! That is so cool. You can read more about Todd on our "Ask The Dog Trainer" webpage or his website, www.ocpacklife.com Thanks Todd!!!
According to www.dogbreedinfo.com, the Miniature Pinscher is not related to the Doberman Pinscher, and is in fact an older breed than the Doberman. Developed in Germany from terrier breeds, including the German Pinscher, the Miniature Pinscher's original use was in hunting rats to keep the population down in the stables that it frequented. Italian Greyhound blood may have been added to produce such a tiny, high stepping-dog. The word "Pinscher" means "terrier" in German. Today the MinPin's high spirit and bright personality make him a charming companion. Some of the Miniature Pinscher's talents are competitive obedience, watchdogging, and agility. The Miniature Pinscher is a hardy little fellow that is very demanding and headstrong. This proud, overly courageous dog likes to bark. They are loyal to their masters, spirited and alert, with high energy. Intelligent, lively and brave, it is a big dog in a little dog's body. The Miniature Pinscher is moderately protective. Some can be very aggressive with other dogs, but they are generally good with other pets and children provided the children do not pester. They are rather suspicious towards strangers, but their behavior depends entirely upon how they were brought up as young pups. Don't spoil this breed too much or the dog may become a tyrant. The Miniature Pinscher can learn extremely well and wants very much to do so. It is certainly beneficial for its socialization to take the dog to puppy courses where it can meet other dogs and people. You will be amazed at how fast the Miniature Pinscher understands and obeys you. Pay particular attention when housebreaking this little Pinscher, since a little puddle from such a small dog can easily be overlooked; the dog may get the idea that you are happy to accept it fulfilling its natural needs indoors. The Miniature Pinscher is often called "King Of The Toys." Beware, this little dog will chew small objects and may choke on them. Do not overfeed this breed. They are a remarkably healthy breed and have an expected life span of 15 or more years.
