Description:
Meet the Deagles! Deanna is a dachshund/beagle mix (d + beagle, deagle, get it?) She came from a high kill shelter with two of her puppies and their daddy. She is spayed, up to date on his shots, and ready to go home with you.

Foster Update 10/3/13:
Appearance- Deanna has short hair and sheds very little. She has a spotted coat with large brown markings. Her coats look more beagle to me than Dachshund.

• Energy Level – Deanna’s energy level is low. She has the most laid back personality…she loves to just lie next to you on the sofa and cuddle. She does play with our dog and like to get outside to run but very minimal.

• Food – Deanna eats twice a day. If food or bones are left in her reach she will also devour them. She has a very healthy appetite.

• Adaptability – She has been great with adapting to our house. She gets along great with our dog that has a high energy level and always wants to play with her. She also is great with our cat…very gentle when going up to greet her.

• Behaviors- She loves to chew on bones and can devour them in one sitting. She is now on  a routine that we walk twice a day and gets very excited when I get the leashes out. She has great leash manners…doesn’t pull.

• Obedience – Deanna doesn’t know any commands, but I’m certain with a little training she can learn them. She knows her name and listens well.

• Training- Deanna is potty trained. She sleeps in bed with me at night, but will go in the crate if necessary. She loves to cuddle at night and take up the entire bed but she has to be touching you with a paw or her nose so she knows your there.

• Ideal Home – Honestly, Deanna is such a good, loving and low maintenance dog any home would be ideal.

Like many dogs in the South, Deanna is heartworm positive but don't let that stop you from adopting a great dog. We are treating her with monthly heartworm preventative, our preferred method. Many heartworm positive dogs go on to lead long and healthy lives.

PRBJtreats ALL of our dogs with monthly Heartworm preventative. HW+ dogs are treated with the recommended slow method, using monthly HW preventative as it is gentler on the animal’s system than the more invasive, injection method. Most dogs that are Heartworm positive can lead healthy, normal lives if the disease is caught early and treatment began. There are different options to treat HW and new owners may choose to redirect their type of treatment with direction of their vet.All HW+ dogs have a HW slow treatment info sheet in their adoption folder which will be provided to new owners.

According to www.dogbreedinfo.com, the Dachshund (pronounced dak sund) originated in Germany many hundreds of years ago. "Dachs" is the word for badger. The Dachshund was bred to hunt and follow these animals to earth, gradually becoming highly evolved, with shortened legs to dig the prey out and go down inside the burrows. Smaller Dachshunds where bred to hunt hare and stoat. Dachshunds have many "terrier" characteristics. They are versatile and courageous dogs and have been known to take on foxes and otters, besides badgers. Lively and affectionate; proud and bold, almost rash. Tenacious. Can be willful and clownish. Curious and mischievous, they are very clever and may attempt to train the owner rather than allow the opposite. Devoted to his family, some fanciers feel the long-haired variety is calmer than the other two types. The wire-haired variety is more outgoing and clown-like. All are slightly difficult to train. Dachshunds are good dogs to travel with. They are best with older, considerate children and are moderately protective. These little dogs like to bark (their barks are surprisingly loud for their size) and are compulsive diggers. They are generally okay with other pets, however, they can be jealous, irritable, obstinate and very quick to bite. Sometimes they will refuse to be handled. They should not be over fed, for this breed tends to gain weight quickly. They have a life expectancy of 12-15 years.
