Description:
Meet the Deagles! Richman is a dachshund/beagle mix (d + beagle, deagle, get it?) He came from a high kill shelter with his siblings and his parents. He is neutered, up to date on his shots, and ready to go home with you.

Important Foster Notes: You can see how much love Richmond has because he’s marked with a HEART on his shoulder!

Most of the time Richmond has a very calm demeanor.  Today while the kids were at school, he laid on a towel in the kitchen with me and only got up to follow me around when I walked away for something.  He doesn’t jump or nip, or pull at the leash.  In fact, he walks mostly right beside me, except when he’s afraid (the garbage truck, a barking dog, or sometimes just crossing the street, and also—he’s afraid to walk through doorways), he falls back and needs a little coaxing to keep going.

He seems almost housebroken.  We take him out every few hours, and he hasn’t had a single accident since he’s been here.  At night he barks when he needs to go outside.

Despite how calm he is, he REALLY loves to play.  My kids sit on either side of the living room and roll the ball back and forth, and he chases it and pounces on it.  A couple of times he fetched it, but mostly when he gets the ball he just wants to sit in the middle of them and chew on it.  In the yard he zips around like a bullet, both chasing the kids and running from them.  Then they stop and call “come,” and give him a treat when he does, so he’s learning to come also.

He also seems to like his crate.  At night when it’s time for sleep, we take him to the room where his crate is, and he just walks right into the crate and lays down.

Richmond will make a great pet for some lucky family.

We’re all having a great time running in the yard, going for walks, and playing.  Richmond runs like a little bullet, zipping around the yard! You should  see that heart on Richmond’s shoulder!  He is beautiful and loveing...
He’s full of love!

According to www.dogbreedinfo.com, the Dachshund (pronounced dak sund) originated in Germany many hundreds of years ago. "Dachs" is the word for badger. The Dachshund was bred to hunt and follow these animals to earth, gradually becoming highly evolved, with shortened legs to dig the prey out and go down inside the burrows. Smaller Dachshunds where bred to hunt hare and stoat. Dachshunds have many "terrier" characteristics. They are versatile and courageous dogs and have been known to take on foxes and otters, besides badgers. Lively and affectionate; proud and bold, almost rash. Tenacious. Can be willful and clownish. Curious and mischievous, they are very clever and may attempt to train the owner rather than allow the opposite. Devoted to his family, some fanciers feel the long-haired variety is calmer than the other two types. The wire-haired variety is more outgoing and clown-like. All are slightly difficult to train. Dachshunds are good dogs to travel with. They are best with older, considerate children and are moderately protective. These little dogs like to bark (their barks are surprisingly loud for their size) and are compulsive diggers. They are generally okay with other pets, however, they can be jealous, irritable, obstinate and very quick to bite. Sometimes they will refuse to be handled. They should not be over fed, for this breed tends to gain weight quickly. They have a life expectancy of 12-15 years.
