Description:
Lilly is one of Bernice's puppies. We rescued this family of seven from an unheated kill shelter in January. What a sweet momma Bernice proved to be, and what an adorable litter of puppies she had! We recommend that if you are considering adopting Lilly, you have another dog to keep her company. Almost all dogs do better with a canine companion ~ they are by instinct pack animals. This will not detract at all from their relationship with you. It will just enhance their lives and, quite honestly, make your life easier in the long run!
Foster update 3/19/08: "Lily is a sweetie. She is definitely a people person and likes to be with you at all times. When you put her outside, she is the first one back to you for some snuggle time. She has been keeping her crate dry at night and she does sleep in there for the night. She is learning how to use the doggy door. She goes in the crate when I have errands to run and she sometimes wets in there. I keep part of the crate papered for that reason, so she keeps her blankets dry. She loves to explore, but again, prefers when you are exploring with her. She adores my older dogs and is always giving them kisses. She is fairly calm and learning to sit. She is a climber though. She can’t have a chain link fence or she would be right over it. She is very creative about getting out of places so indoors with you or crated is a safe bet with this little one. "
Update 3/31: Lily is out back and just playing and running with the big dogs and having a great time! She is so sweet and when not playing, is calm and loves to be with you. She is doing great at going through the doggy door and I’m hoping that will facilitate her housetraining. She really is a wonderful puppy and I’m hoping she finds a wonderful home that loves her and realizes what a great dog they have. Could that be you?
4/01 Update: Lily is a dog that would really benefit from another dog or a LOT of human companionship. Her companion and sister got adopted this weekend and Lily has been really lonely since. She will cry at night when crated out in the living room. I am going to try to bring the crate into my room tonight and see if she will rest better knowing we are closer by or if it is just being in the crate by herself that she doesn’t like.

She adores my other 2 dogs but they are a little older and don’t play as much as she would probably like. She enjoys eating next to them though, again, she likes that companionship.

And one last reminder, she will climb over a chain link fence I’m betting since she climbs up over the lattice work we have on our porch and the children’s gates and anything with holes in it.
*** How familiar are you with the Labrador Retriever? According to www.dogbreedinfo.com, the Labrador Retriever is a loving, affectionate, lovable, patient dog. Once known as the "St John's Dogs," the Labrador Retriever is one of the most popular breeds in the United States. Originally from Newfoundland, Canada the Labrador was trained to jump overboard into the icy waters to haul fisherman's nets to shore. Specimens were brought to England in the 1800's by English ships coming from Labrador, where the dog's fine retrieving instincts were honed and developed. One of the best family dogs and canine companions because of their gentle, loving disposition, the highly trainable Labrador also excels in drug detection, as a guide for the blind, and service dog for the disabled. The breed is also an outstanding obedience and field trial competitor. Highly intelligent, loyal, willing, and high-spirited. Lively and good-natured, they love to play, especially in water - for they love to swim. They have an excellent, reliable, temperament and are friendly, superb with children and equable with other dogs. They crave human attention and need to feel as though they are part of the family. Labs are easily trained. These dogs are watchdogs, not guard dogs, although some have been known to guard. They have a life expectancy of 10-12 years.
