Description: Emma is one of Bernice's puppies, a litter of 6 that we rescued from an unheated kill shelter in January. As you can see, she is a snuggle bunny! Like all puppies, she will do best in a home with another dog or puppy. Actually, this is true for almost all dogs. They are pack animals and thrive with the company of other canines. It doesn't detract at all from their relationship with their people, it just adds a new dimension to their lives. Emma will be spayed and ready for her new home right after Easter. Foster Update 3/19/08: Little Emma is very playful. She will find anything to play with. She is also very adventurous and quick moving. She sleeps in the funniest positions at times as you can see from the pictures. She is keeping her crate dry at night where she sleeps but will sometimes wet the papers during the day when I crate her so I can go out on errands. She loves to be in the back yard playing but comes in for snuggle time often. She is learning to use the doggy door and to sit. She still gets pretty excited over the possibility of having a treat though so sitting for it has been hard for her. She loves to nibble and will need plenty of chew things. She has a beautiful black muzzle and little wrinkles on her fur between her eyes. She is a darling little puppy full of energy. It seems like she sleeps a lot b/c that is when she is still enough for us to get her. "
*** How familiar are you with the Labrador Retriever? According to www.dogbreedinfo.com, the Labrador Retriever is a loving, affectionate, lovable, patient dog. Once known as the "St John's Dogs," the Labrador Retriever is one of the most popular breeds in the United States. Originally from Newfoundland, Canada the Labrador was trained to jump overboard into the icy waters to haul fisherman's nets to shore. Specimens were brought to England in the 1800's by English ships coming from Labrador, where the dog's fine retrieving instincts were honed and developed. One of the best family dogs and canine companions because of their gentle, loving disposition, the highly trainable Labrador also excels in drug detection, as a guide for the blind, and service dog for the disabled. The breed is also an outstanding obedience and field trial competitor. Highly intelligent, loyal, willing, and high-spirited. Lively and good-natured, they love to play, especially in water - for they love to swim. They have an excellent, reliable, temperament and are friendly, superb with children and equable with other dogs. They crave human attention and need to feel as though they are part of the family. Labs are easily trained. These dogs are watchdogs, not guard dogs, although some have been known to guard. They have a life expectancy of 10-12 years.
