Special Needs: HEARTWORM POSITIVE; both the treatment type and services provided will be by Pet Rescue By Judy and/or its associated veterinarian's office. The commitment required from the adoptive family is the animal's attendance at the treatment, quiet time and relaxation after the procedure, followed up by monthly heart guard tablets each and every month in the future for the remainder of the life of the animal. The latter, of course, is an on-going parental obligations with all pets in the household.

Bernice and her puppies were rescued from a kill shelter. The shelter administrator called Judy and asked if she would take this sweet family in before they risked catching a cold in their unheated facility. It has been our pleasure to care for them. Like a lot of Southern dogs who have been neglected, Bernice is heartworm positive. We will take care of her treatment. Bernice is so loving, affectionate, and nurturing. She really deserves a wonderful home of her own!

Foster update 6/30: When asked to tell us about Bernice her foster sent this "Bernice or B, as I like to call her, is one of those singular dogs whose affection should never be confused for dominance. It has been a long standing belief of mine that dogs are sentient beings whose motivation for things is not governed by basic instinct. B loves other animals but needs to get to know them slowly and with patience. Conversely B vies for Humans affection like no other dog I have seen. B's one annoyance is that she steps on your heals and licks the back of your legs as you walk.

Some of B's interests include jogging along side you, car rides, and garden hoses. Her perfect environment would be a large fenced in yard with none or one or two other dogs and no cats. Its not that she hates cats it's just that no one has taught her how to treat them.

Another thing I love about B is that she's an excellent watch dog. If someone comes around your house who doesn't belong she will let you know within seconds."


When working with Bernice I have noticed that this little girl wants and needs a home of her own again. Someone to love her and give her the attention that she so deserves! She is the sweetest girl! Today she was sitting in her crate and looking a little down so I took her out and walked her and loved her and we ran in the rain. She was so happy! It lifted her spirts right away. Please consider this little love and give her the home that she so very much deserves!
