America is a little Shepherd puppy.  Judy rescued this litter of seven on Independence Day, so needless to say, they were all christened with patriotic names.  Adorable pups, they should be ready for the forever home by mid to late July.

7/17 Foster Update:
I am fostering America, Veteran, and Liberty. Like most puppies, America is a rambunctious, energetic puppy. She loves to play with her brother and sister and my two dogs. They run around the backyard going a mile a minute! However, when she tires out she likes her space and usually finds a cozy place to take a nap. America is probably going to be a very smart dog. When her brother and sister go running off for an adventure America hangs back to check things out - she looks before she leaps I guess you could say. She was also the first puppy to figure out the crate is her "home." When she gets tired she goes to her crate to go to bed, which is the smart thing to do too, since she always gets the most space on the pillow that way! America is a sweetheart who deserves a wonderful forever home!

8/10 Foster Update:
Ms. America is just too much fun! She LOVES to play, and is so funny when she gets going! She crouches low to the ground and runs as fast as her legs will take her: across the yard; around in circles; through the water bowls - wherever the wind blows her! She absolutely loves to be outside too. She caught on to potty training very quickly, but the smart little thing also figured out that if she pretended she needed to go potty she'd get to go outside! We usually indulge her because she just loves to play outside so much. Ms. America would do very well with a dog to play with and a house with a fenced in yard (she's never met a dog she didn't love, and she was the first puppy who actually got my Aussie to play with her). She's very sweet, and has learned that she loves to lay in bed or sit on the couch with me. If I take a nap or go to bed early it's only a matter of time until I see her little paws begging to get up and lay with me. Ms. America is a wonderful dog, and I really hope we can find her people as wonderful as her!

***According to dogbreedinfo.com, in April 1899, Capt. Max von Stephanitz registered a dog named Horan as the first Deutsche Schäferhunde, which means German Shepherd Dog in English. Known for their tremendous loyalty and courage, they are calmly confident, but not hostile. This breed needs his people and should not be left isolated for long periods of time. They only bark when it is necessary. Serious and almost human in his intelligence, they have a high learning ability. The breed is so intelligent and learns so readily that it has been used as a sheepdog, guard dog, in police work, as a guide for the blind, in search and rescue service, and in the military. The German Shepherd also excels in many other dog activities including schutzhund, tracking, obedience, agility, flyball, and ring sport. His fine nose can sniff out drugs and intruders, and can alert handlers to the presence of underground mines in time to avoid detonation, or gas leaks in a pipes buried 15 feet underground. A quick daily brushing is best unless hair in the house is not a problem. They should be bathed rarely, only once or twice a year to avoid skin oil depletion. Shepherds have a life expectancy around 13 years.
