Animal Success Stories

Second only to finding homes for our animals is the joy of hearing back from their new families.  We invite you to read along with us.  If you should decide to open up your heart and home to one of our angels, please send us a note and photo to tell us how it is going!  We will post it on this page so others can share in your happiness.

Jax
Jax

So, we now have 2 nights under our belts with Jax and so far all seems to be going very well.  He is still trying to figure us out and we are doing the same with him.  Should not be too difficult as we have a rather structured existence here.

We purchased a large crate for him as his "safe place" and that is working well.  The cats are most curious about him; the youngest one is petrified of him but does on occasion get brave enough to approach the locked crate when he is inside before darting away!  At night we leave a "night light" of sorts on in the room with his crate and that has worked well to keep him from crying or yipping.  He and my husband take 3-4 brisk walks every day and we are very pleased at how well he does on a leash.  He is quite persistent at picking up rocks, sticks and other "goodies" to bring home!  We have started a stick "collection" outside the front door for him to select one to carry on his walks.

He has a good appetite and is getting used to being fed twice a day with no bowl of food to graze at all day long.

Things so far are going well.  And we will keep you updated as time goes along.

Thank you so much for all of your assistance with his adoption process.

Jax

Well, we've had Jax for 14 weeks now.  What a wonderful dog! It said he was good with cats which we wanted since we have 3 (also from PRBJ). He basically just ignores them. He is supposed to be 9 years old but sometimes acts like a little puppy.  He had a bad time before ending up at Judy's which left him with a severely arthritic hip and missing most of his teeth.  We took him to the vet and got an anti-imflammatory which helps a lot.  You would hardly know he has a problem.  We feed him all soft food because of his teeth.  We had a DNA test done and it came back as 100% German Shepherd going back at least 4 generations.  This would indicate he came from a breeder or most likely a puppy mill. He is such a sweetheart.  We take him on 3 to 4 walks a day which he loves.  The only problem is what we call separation anxiety.   He stays by me and is usually no more than 5 to 10 feet away.  If I leave the house he paces and cries but this is getting better.  The picture is his usual position with me.  We're so happy with him.  Thanks Judy for all the good you do.
