Dina is a little Shepherd mix that we saved from a high kill shelter. Can you believe this little one was scheduled to be gassed to death? She is a real sweetheart, very loving as you can tell by the way she rolls on her back for a belly rub!

8/19 Foster Update:
Do we still live in the Age of Miracles? I think we do! Abel, our treasurer, has taken Dina home to foster. Why is this a miracle? Because Able is a total cat guy. But when he saw Dina at the kennel, absolutely shaking and scared to death, his heart broke for her and he took her home. This is what he just sent me: "I will try to take some more pictures of her sleeping on my couch and bed next to my cats. The cats are not fond of playing second fiddle to any canine but they seem to really like her. She is still very timid but is starting to come around. She has been sleeping all day like you said she would on the couch in my TV room. She must love the quiet and not being worried about being gassed at any given time. She walks well on a leash. She will take time to warm up to her family and will want to sleep in bed with you at night and on couchs so people must be prepared for this. " I love that description. Dina is going through the classic decompression of a dog that has been through the trauma of a gas shelter (both of my dogs came from the same kill shelter). She was frightened and stressed out. Now that she is in a safe home, she will probably sleep for four days. And then we will get to discover the true personality of this little shepherd girl. I can hardly wait!!!

8/21 Update:
Abel just sent me an update. He said that Dina is still a little bit timid but oh-so-much better. He also sent me a couple of photos of Dina on the bed with his cats. Usually I crop the photos so you just see the dog but I didn't do it this time because you've just got to check them out. First, look at how big Dina's ears are in the photo where she's sitting in the middle of the bed! Then, check out the cats sitting on the end of the bed staring at her. I think my ears would be big too. But then look at the photo where she is on the bed but the back end of her body is cut off. Do you see the cat on the dresser in the corner of the room? Hmmm, I wonder why she is timid? :~) But seriously, look at this wonderful dog and tell me you don't just want to scoop her up and give her a wonderful home! She is a true gem.
