Andretti is just so much fun and so full of personality! My kids love to play with him and hold him. He lives in a puppy pen, but he's hardly ever in there when the kids are home because they can't resist picking him up. If they lay with him on the carpet, he lays down next to them. He can't stay still, but it's like he's committed to lying low because the kids are, so he does an army crawl, keeping his chest on the ground as he goes back and forth between the kids and all around them. He does this so consistently, that one of my friends, watching him, was moved to ask, "but he can walk normally, right?" And can he ever! he loves to go for walks, where he follows behind us with his leash dragging, and we try to stay ahead so he doesn't get underfoot and trip us! He's so tiny, you don't expect him to be able to walk very far, but he's got a lot of stamina when he's out visiting with the world! When he does get tired, he slows and then stops, and I'll turn around, call him, and pat my hands on the ground and then he comes running to my arms. He also loves being outside and romping in the grass. My son plays chase with him and tells me that Andretti is too smart to fall for any fake moves. When you reach down to pet him, he immediately falls over and offers you his belly. He is a big fan of belly rubs! He is well on his way to being potty trained, does his business very quickly in the morning out in the garden before breakfast. He will be easy to train!
Andretti is a black and brown brindle color. He looks like he's lying in dappled shade. He's got a white spot on his chest, little floppy ears and a big fat belly, especially after a meal!
He eats Natural Choice Small Breed Puppy (smallest kibble we could find) and eats twice a day about a cup and occassionally we add a tablespoon of Pupmkin.
These precious babies were brought to us at 6 weeks old by an owner who rescued the mamma off the street and tried to keep them all together as long as possible. 8 pups were too much work for her with all the food, need for shots and vet care and so she came to Judy for help when they were able to eat real food. They were fortunately well cared for and loved, but needed our help. They will hopefully be ready for Memorial Day so we named them after Indianpolis 500 "Indy" Car famous drivers...and few of the lady drivers over the years.
*** According to www.dogbreedinfo.com, the Labrador Retriever is a loving, affectionate, lovable, patient dog. Once known as the "St John's Dogs," the Labrador Retriever is one of the most popular breeds in the United States. Originally from Newfoundland, Canada the Labrador was trained to jump overboard into the icy waters to haul fisherman's nets to shore. Specimens were brought to England in the 1800's by English ships coming from Labrador, where the dog's fine retrieving instincts were honed and developed. One of the best family dogs and canine companions because of their gentle, loving disposition, the highly trainable Labrador also excels in drug detection, as a guide for the blind, and service dog for the disabled. The breed is also an outstanding obedience and field trial competitor. Highly intelligent, loyal, willing, and high-spirited. Lively and good-natured, they love to play, especially in water - for they love to swim. They have an excellent, reliable, temperament and are friendly, superb with children and equable with other dogs. They crave human attention and need to feel as though they are part of the family. Labs are easily trained. These dogs are watchdogs, not guard dogs, although some have been known to guard. They have a life expectancy of 10-12 years
