Liberty and her sibling Independence were rescued from a high kill shelter. They are the cutest little puppies. Their mother looks like a shepherd/Lab but who knows what the father was?

Foster Update: Liberty (Libby) and Independence (Indie) came to me from a high kill shelter very scared and extremely attached to each other.  They were covered with ticks and fleas and in need of some love and attention.  It was obvious that they were either living alone or in a very scary environment.  Despite all this, they have done wonderful and are really coming out of their shells.  They still prefer to be together and are always making sure they're in sight of each other, but that has not stopped them from joining in on all the fun.  They both do well with my big dogs and pups, and love playing and hanging out in the yard.  They're not so sure of my two cats and have decided it's better to bark and chase them than to become friends. Both pups will do fine with reassurance and a loving and patient home home.

Independence (Indie) is an adorable tri-color pup with dark eyes and spunky personality.  She is an outgoing girl and can often be seen kicking off a game of "keep away".  When she first came to us she was a bit shy and hesitant to be pet.  After a few days of attention and proper care she figured out that life isn't so bad after all and decided to join in all the fun.  Indie has even figured out that the kiddie pool is not only a giant water bowl, but a great place to cool off and splash around.  She now joins the big dogs and hangs out poolside, when there's room...  Indie knows sit, likes her baths, rides well in the car and is crate trained.  She is doing well with housebreaking and goes from 11pm until 7am without an accident.  Indie can be a bit possessive over food sometimes, which is to be expected considering where she came from, and we are working on that.  It's nothing too much to deal with, other than she likes to be first at the bowl and lets it be known she prefers to dine alone. With love and reassurance Indie will thrive and will make a great addition to any ones family.  Indie was a pleasure to foster and will be missed in our home.

***According to dogbreedinfo.com, in April 1899, Capt. Max von Stephanitz registered a dog named Horan as the first Deutsche Schäferhunde, which means German Shepherd Dog in English. Known for their tremendous loyalty and courage, they are calmly confident, but not hostile. This breed needs his people and should not be left isolated for long periods of time. They only bark when it is necessary. Serious and almost human in his intelligence, they have a high learning ability. The breed is so intelligent and learns so readily that it has been used as a sheepdog, guard dog, in police work, as a guide for the blind, in search and rescue service, and in the military. The German Shepherd also excels in many other dog activities including schutzhund, tracking, obedience, agility, flyball, and ring sport. His fine nose can sniff out drugs and intruders, and can alert handlers to the presence of underground mines in time to avoid detonation, or gas leaks in a pipes buried 15 feet underground. A quick daily brushing is best unless hair in the house is not a problem. They should be bathed rarely, only once or twice a year to avoid skin oil depletion. Shepherds have a life expectancy around 13 years.
