Description:

Liberty and her sibling Independence were rescued from a high kill shelter. They are the cutiest little puppies. There mother looks like a shepherd/Lab but whom knows what the father was?

Foster Update:  Liberty (Libby) and Independence (Indie) came to me from a high kill shelter very scared and extremely attached to each other.  They were covered with ticks and fleas and in need of some love and attention.  It was obvious that they were either living alone or in a very scary environment.  Despite all this they have done wonderful and are really coming out of their shells.  They still prefer to be together and are always making sure they're in sight of each other, but that has not stopped them from joining in on all the fun.  They both do well with my big dogs and pups, and love playing and hanging out in the yard.  They're not so sure of my two cats and have decided it's better to bark and chase them than to become friends. Both pups will do fine with reassurance and a loving and patient home home.

Liberty is a sweetie with a reddish/tan coat and beautiful green eyes.  She loves to run around with her sister and share toys with the little pups in the group.  Libby can be a little shy when you go at her at first, and sometimes cowers to the ground.  Once you pet and talk to her she warms right up and loves to cuddle and bury her head in your lap.  She will sit forever with you as long as you are loving on her, and just enjoys being at your side.   Libby knows sit, walks on leash fairly well, is working on house breaking and goes from 11pm until 7am without an accident.  She is crate trained, does well with baths and doesn't mind the car.  Libby is a great little girl with a lot of love to give.  She will make someone a great companion and will be greatly missed in our home.

***According to dogbreedinfo.com, in April 1899, Capt. Max von Stephanitz registered a dog named Horan as the first Deutsche Schäferhunde, which means German Shepherd Dog in English. Known for their tremendous loyalty and courage, they are calmly confident, but not hostile. This breed needs his people and should not be left isolated for long periods of time. They only bark when it is necessary. Serious and almost human in his intelligence, they have a high learning ability. The breed is so intelligent and learns so readily that it has been used as a sheepdog, guard dog, in police work, as a guide for the blind, in search and rescue service, and in the military. The German Shepherd also excels in many other dog activities including schutzhund, tracking, obedience, agility, flyball, and ring sport. His fine nose can sniff out drugs and intruders, and can alert handlers to the presence of underground mines in time to avoid detonation, or gas leaks in a pipes buried 15 feet underground. A quick daily brushing is best unless hair in the house is not a problem. They should be bathed rarely, only once or twice a year to avoid skin oil depletion. Shepherds have a life expectancy around 13 years.
