Description:
Tanner is one of a litter of black kittens we received from a lovely woman who rescued them. Knowing that black cats are the hardest to find homes for, she did all she could to make these kittens adoptable. She fed them, handled them, played with them every day so they would love to be with their people and boy did it work! These are the sweetest kittens you ever wanted to grace your home! Sadly, however, Tanner appears to have fallen subject to the Black Cat Syndrome ~ despite his wonderful personality, he has waited for more than a year for a family to call his own. All of his siblings have long since been adopted. Thank goodness Judy gives a lifetime commitment to these cats, because Tanner has been here for over 3 years now. If you meet him, I promise you will fall in love! the only draw back to this boy is he tends to be very dominant with other cats. When introducing him to your home and the resident cats, you will want to make it a slow one! He does get along with other cats; he just has to make sure that they know he is in charge!
When you walk in the cat room at the shelter, he is the first one to walk up to you for attention. He is surrounded by many ladies - so he's the ladies' man-cat of the room, but he really just wants to be with a good human to call his own. Imagine all this time in a small room, not much space to roam. Won't you consider giving Tanner the freedom and love of the home that he deserves?
Foster Update 10/14/11: So Tanner found out what cat-nip was today; and LOVES it. Unlike most cats, he likes to lick things made out of catnip. He rolls around and stretches out--he is almost 2 ft when fully elongated. I love how every morning, he greets you by the bedroom door. He follows you, to make sure you will feed him, I guess. He has a very distinctive meow/howl. When he wants you to pay attention to him, he will let you know. It makes us giggle every time because his howls are so awkward-sounding. It will be a bitter-sweet day when he finds his forever-home, but whoever gets this guy will be lucky. Not only do you get a regal looking cat that looks like a panther, you get his unique personality. Tanner is goofy, smart, sweet, and handsome all at the same time. Everyone loves this cat when they come over and he has won our hearts over for sure.
Foster Update 8/31/11: Tanner - He is finally the man of the house. He doesn't hide anymore and is always around. He is a flopper and has major cattitude when you pet him. He doesn't mind the dog and loves our new kitten. When you come home from work he is the first one to meet you at the door, and meows until you give him a quick pet. I am sooo happy he is finally loving his foster home!!
Foster Update 8/3/11: I love Tanner! He finally stopped going to his room, and lives with the other animals. When he gets scared he hides under that couch for awhile. But when it is just you and him, he is so lively. He loves to headbutt, flip-flop around, and (my favorite) pull himself along the floor. He is a very majestic cat. I would recommend him to patient household and maybe a single cat one. He doesn't mind the other animals, but when it gets loud he hides.
9/3/10 Volunteer Update:
Tanner is a people cat. He really likes to just hang out, get petted and be close. He's perfectly happy to entertain himself, playing with toys and napping, but when push comes to shove, he really wants to be a companion. He seems to get along with other cats pretty well and did very well with all of the kittens hanging around. But fundamentally, a little human contact is all he needs to be a happy, purring kitty.
1.12.09 Volunteer Update~
I think it should be noted that Tanner is a "love nibbler." I had a family in recently looking at some cats and Tanner started chomping on someone's fingers! Fortunately, the man took in stride, since Tanner doesn't do it to hurt. But I would hate for him to take someone by surprise :).
09.18.10 Volunteer Update: Today there were a lot of volunteers in the free roam cat room. Tanner was loving the company and the attention.
