Description:

Zest and her siblings came to us from a high kill shelter and are now looking for wonderful forever homes!

Foster Update: Zest is a little chubby girl. She will lay on her back so you will scratch her belly and likes to be  held. Her ears bend at the tips. She is brindle in color and she  has  more brown than Zeal. She is very playful with her siblings.  She also likes dry puppy dog food. I recently added some canned and they will now eat it.

Foster Update:  Zest is a really cute little girl. She is shorter and heavier than her litter mates. She enjoys  being petted, held  and will roll over to have her belly stroked. She can keep up with her siblings.  She sleeps in her crate at night. She is in process of potty training.  Zest enjoys her food. She eats dry and canned dog food (veterinarian puppy formula). She has been accepted into our dog pack.

Foster Update:  Zest is is a very sweet little girl. She loves playing with the other puppies and our 4 dogs. She sleeps and eats in her crate and gives in by herself. Zest enjoys attention and likes her belly rubbed. I have found that she does not liked to be picked up with your hand under her belly. She will protest and want down. I think that it hurts her. She has had a little belly since we got  her from the  shelter. She  often will lay by the water bowel and she drinks it often.  She seems to prefer dry puppy dog food ,but she has started eating some canned dog food. I put some plain yogurt with her food in the morning. She is fed two times a day. She loves her treats. Zest is just precious.

***According to dogbreedinfo.com, in April 1899, Capt. Max von Stephanitz registered a dog named Horan as the first Deutsche Schäferhunde, which means German Shepherd Dog in English. Known for their tremendous loyalty and courage, they are calmly confident, but not hostile. This breed needs his people and should not be left isolated for long periods of time. They only bark when it is necessary. Serious and almost human in his intelligence, they have a high learning ability. The breed is so intelligent and learns so readily that it has been used as a sheepdog, guard dog, in police work, as a guide for the blind, in search and rescue service, and in the military. The German Shepherd also excels in many other dog activities including schutzhund, tracking, obedience, agility, flyball, and ring sport. His fine nose can sniff out drugs and intruders, and can alert handlers to the presence of underground mines in time to avoid detonation, or gas leaks in a pipes buried 15 feet underground. A quick daily brushing is best unless hair in the house is not a problem. They should be bathed rarely, only once or twice a year to avoid skin oil depletion. Shepherds have a life expectancy around 13 years.
