Description: Brooklyn kitty left the big city back in 2004 as a wee black speck. We named him Anthony James, for a beloved family member. Cats are cool, and Anthony proved it by leaping into the fridge when Momma wasn't looking, the morning after he came home!!
Shortly after bringing him into our apartment, we taught him to come when shaking his treat bag and calling out the word "Goodies!!!" - use a high pitched tone on the word, he will come no matter where he is in the house.
His first vet checkup included neutering and an exam. The kitty doc advised he would be a 'big boy'- well over 10 pounds.. And he was only off by 20 pounds.. In his heyday, Tony weighed close to 30 pounds.. He wore it well!
Anthony was going to be an indoor guy, so when we saw that he liked to scale the walls by leaping up, digging his claws in and slowly sliding down the wall- we got him a scratching tower.. but that wasn't enough-he went through two sets of patio door curtains, half the leather ottoman, and 3 human legs... we bought 'soft claws' - they didn't stick. I used to lay on my belly and show him how to use the scratching pad. Not working... So we had him declawed. I sobbed that morning, and called the vet hourly to check on my baby.
We traveled from NJ to FL with Anthony as copilot. He did GREAT- never a peep. We did discover that he liked high places, at the hotel that first night, he flew off the bed and up onto the wardrobe. He came back down once we pulled out the 'goodies'. Even as large as he is, he is sleek and can jump well. He would love to find a high point and snooze there. On occasion, as cats do, he will sort of 'hide' under the bed. He helps change the sheets, always a fan of Tide and Snuggle.
Once settled into a routine of belly rubs, goodies, kibble, occasional wet food, fresh water and snuggles daily, Anthony knew his place was with his Mommy & Daddy, guarding them from spiders, annoying dogs and on occasion here in FL, a gecko or two!
Since we discovered our son (now 5 months) is allergic to the cat dander, we tried in vain to find a new home for our well-loved cat.
Anthony likes belly rubs, gentle brushing, fresh water, a clean litter pan, and to snuggle on HIS TERMS. Give him a sun spot and a few treats and he will love you forever.
