Foster Update 6/10 - Werner and his brother are two peas in a pod, but have two different and distinct personalities. Werner is mellow, laid back, and no matter how big he gets will consider himself a lap dog. He does have bursts of energy like all Labs do, but this dreamboat appreciates the lazy dog days of summer with the ones he loves. He’ll crawl in your lap for love, collapse in your arms and snuggle up, and he loves to lick your face.
His second gear loves to wrestle with his brother, romp thru the tall landscape grass, study things he finds in the yard. He’s a thoughtful explorer. It’s been hard to walk a dog and two puppies on a leash, but Werner had the hang of it in the first step. Stayed right where I put him and only got out of position if side swiped by his exuberant brother. He’ll be a dream to walk, because he mastered loose leash in one try.
His relaxed attitude would benefit anyone that craves a big dog for fun times, but would appreciate a second speed for quiet times. He is a charmer.
Wylie, his brother Werner and there mom Willa all came from animal control. They were looking for a rescue to take this cute little family before there time was up....were hoping to find them all wonderful homes!
*** According to www.dogbreedinfo.com, the Labrador Retriever is a loving, affectionate, lovable, patient dog. Once known as the "St John's Dogs," the Labrador Retriever is one of the most popular breeds in the United States. Originally from Newfoundland, Canada the Labrador was trained to jump overboard into the icy waters to haul fisherman's nets to shore. Specimens were brought to England in the 1800's by English ships coming from Labrador, where the dog's fine retrieving instincts were honed and developed. One of the best family dogs and canine companions because of their gentle, loving disposition, the highly trainable Labrador also excels in drug detection, as a guide for the blind, and service dog for the disabled. The breed is also an outstanding obedience and field trial competitor. Highly intelligent, loyal, willing, and high-spirited. Lively and good-natured, they love to play, especially in water - for they love to swim. They have an excellent, reliable, temperament and are friendly, superb with children and equable with other dogs. They crave human attention and need to feel as though they are part of the family. Labs are easily trained. These dogs are watchdogs, not guard dogs, although some have been known to guard. They have a life expectancy of 10-12 years.
