Foster Update - 7/14/11: Spirit's companion cat was adopted so in order to be able to save two more returned fellow companion felines, she volunteered to move to a new foster home since her current foster home could only foster two. She went thru the same transisition phase of hiding under the bed the first week, but now she is out and about her new home exploring and making friends. I found her napping in my graddaughter's tent with DJ one of my male foster kittens. HMMMMM think she has a boyfriend now!!!! She is very affectionate when she wants to be petted, arching her back and purring while being petted or eating. She likes feline companion ship, but more one on one as opposed to multiple felines. A home with only one or two felines would probably be her ideal home.
Foster Update - 5/26/11: Spirit has gained quite a bit of confidence and no longer spends most of her time under the bed. She now actively comes up to me wanting to be touched and the purring starts before I can even lay my hand on her. Sometimes she purrs while she's eating her food! She is turning into a little lover kitty. She's very well behaved, uses the litter box well and is a sweet little girl. She is still a licker, and will lick so much sometimes I have to check my hand after to see if I've lost any skin! She and Zephyr still run around chasing each other and will hug/swat/play together for over an hour at a time.
Foster Update - 4/11/11: Spirit took some time settling into her foster home. She really wanted to be a lover but was too timid at first. She spent the first week under my bed. If I put my hand under there, she would let me pet her sometimes and would purr, but would rarely come out. That completely changed once we brought another foster kitten home. Once she heard/smelled Zephyr, she turned into a whole new kitty! She came out from under the bed and immediately started playing with her. Since then, they have been chasing each other around the house like crazy, enjoying playtime together. Also, her new companion seems to have helped her feel more confident around the people in the house because she is now coming up to people (tentatively) and letting us pet her. Last night, Zephyr decided she wanted to sleep in my bed and when Spirit saw this, well suddenly she wanted to sleep on my bed too! Literally a COPY-CAT!
Spirit likes to be petted and many times when you do, she will lick your hand and groom you with her cute little sandpaper tongue. I have clipped her claws once and she did fine with this. She is so adorable, and her sleek gray fur is so pretty. She is still very much kitten in her behavior so she scampers around and loves to play with toys now. She has not hissed once since she arrived and it seems she definitely prefers the company of other cats. She has noticed my 1yr old daughter but has not seemed especially scared or upset, she just runs away from her (just like she runs everywhere else in the house!)
She would be great in a household with other kittens or friendly cats
Spirit was surrendered to us by a friend of her owner who passed away unexpectedly. She is a very loving and playful kitten.
