Description:

Foster Update 11/24/12: Since being in my home, Zephyr has become a wonderful addition to my family. Over the holiday's I had people over who had children and small dogs. Zephyr never gave either of them a second thought. She was not afraid of the children or the dogs. She even played with the child. Zephyr would make a wonderful addition to any family with small children or small dogs. Her outgoing personality is a pleasure to have in my home.

Foster Update 9/24/12: Not sure why this kitty has not been adopted. She is one beautiful spirited little girl. She has a fun loving and outgoing personality and it makes me laugh. She has a very curious nature and loves to play. She is very affectionate and seems to get a long pretty well with my other kitties. She is still new in my home so my cats are getting use to her as well. If you are looking for a little girl that you will never get bored with, Zephyr is the one to look at. She just wants to have a loving forever family that she can enjoy as much as her being enjoyed.

Zephyr was returned to us because her family couldn't keep her. Zephyr needs a home where she can have lots of attention and interactive play time.

6/21/11: Foster Update-  We have now started calling Zephyr the lover kitty.  She is still playful, afraid of nothing and sure of herself but now she is also becoming super affectionate.  She does what we call "kitten parking", where you'll be lying on the couch or in bed and she will just walk up onto you and lay herself down and stay there a while purring.  She is just the right mix of playful and companion. She doesn't mind being picked up at all.  Also, she has a very funny meow sound - which she doesn't use often.  She's usually pretty quiet, but when she does meow, she reminds me of an old grandmother's voice - kind of a scratchy sound- so I've been calling her Grandma kitty too.  So many names for this kitty with so much personality!  She and Spirit are still very much BFFs and its very pleasant to see them running around together just enjoying kitty life.

5/26/11:  Zephyr has calmed down quite a bit since her first introduction in the house - either that or Spirit is doing her part and wearing her out. She still has quite a bit of energy but is no longer racing around on top of the appliances etc.  She definitely has a very strong interest in people food, and although we never encourage this, she is very persistent but we are working on it!

She is supremely self confident.  If she is lying on the floor and my toddler comes barreling towards her, you would think she would see the impending danger and move, but she doesn't.  She doesn't assume anything will harm her.  There have been times when she is lying in the way of a door I want to open, and when I start to open it slowly and it touches her, she would rather let me continue opening the door which slides her across the tile than stand up and get out of the way. She will lie on the stairs right in the middle of where you would step and when I come down the stairs I have to actually walk around her because she won't move.  She must really believe she hasn't used any of her nine lives up because she is very cavalier in the face of toddler danger!  She is quite something. I've never seen a cat so sure of herself!

Foster update 4/11:  Zephyr was quiet as a mouse in the carrier during the car ride home from the shelter, not a peep, very calm.  I put her into a small closed room like I normally do when I bring cats into the house so they can feel safe while they get comfortable in their surroundings.  well, she lasted about 5 minutes before crying to be let out, but I felt it was better to leave her there for a bit - also for the benefit of the resident and other foster cat.  Well, 3 hrs later, someone came home and accidentally opened that door and she bolted out.  Turns out she really didnt need ANY time to get acclimated: she was ready to meet everyone and get started exploring the house.  She immediately ran around the house smelling everything, jumping onto every surface she could find including the top of the refrigerator, the kitchen cabinets, the entertainment center.  At one point it looked like she wanted to make the jump to the ceiling fan but she thought better of it and changed her mind. She has been up and down and all around the kitty condo and running behind the couches. Needless to say she is a very energetic little kitten!

She had a couple of issues with some of the cats in the shelter (a little hissing went on), but so far I've seen no sign of that whatsoever here at my house (perhaps there were just too many cats there for her liking). She has been super friendly with the resident cat and the other foster kitten.  The two fosters have become best of pals in less than 2 days and love to chase each other around the house playing. Zephyr has a little bit of a begging behavior, and actually its more than begging - if you're not careful with your food, she will climb right up on you and try to eat it right out of your bowl or hand - we're working on that!  She is very persistent when wanting attention and loves to be picked up and held. She likes to follow you around as well.

She is a very sweet kitty and very playful and would do best in a house with another cat for her to play with. She needs an outlet right now to let out some of that kitten energy or she may find herself getting into things she shouldnt. She is also great around kids, as she walked right up to my 1yr old and sniffed her nose to nose and then patiently waited while my daughter touched her (a little roughly) and then tugged on her ear a little (before I could stop her).  Zephyr was very well behaved through all of that.

Based on her personality I'm not sure the gentle breeze of a Zephyr is her best description.  I'd probably call her Squall!
