Description:Lila was found as a stray by a wonderful dog lover. Lila is very calm and sweet. She likes to be petted and sleep by your side. She has a mild temperament and has the most amazing silver coat!!
Foster Update: Lila would do best in a home with someone who is active. She loves car rides, swimming in the lake--and even likes to chase the riding lawn mower when my husband is mowing the grass. She is just so playful and full of personality! She currently lives with 5 other big dogs and is very submissive to them, but is slow to warm up to other dogs she doesn't know. It took her less than two weeks to warm up to mine. Lila is extremely afraid of thunder and storms. Lila is such a people person and is always very eager to meet new people. She has not met a person she doesn't like! She is willing to go and do anything with you. So if you are looking for a true companion, she's the one. She's also a big snuggle bug. She acts like she weighs 20 lbs, when actually she is 60 lbs of solid muscle. She is a very strong girl. When I walk her I use a prong collar and that does the trick. Keeps her from pulling and tugging. Lila loves her walks--they are a must. She cannot be left alone outside because she will jump a fence to come look for you. She is easy though. Just take her out on her leash for potty breaks and at least one long walk per day and she is great. She also lives with two cats and does fine. She is in great health but has a sensitive stomach so no people food. She is very alert and will let you know when someone comes to the door.
Here is everything we know about Lila's sweet personality from her foster family:
• Warms up slowly to new dogs and need an owner experienced in introducing/socializing dogs unless she is the only dog in the home (currently lives with 4 other dogs)
• Displays no food or resource aggression whatsoever, to both humans and other dogs
• Loves the water and loves bathtime as well as swimming in the lake!
• Needs daily exercise or she will display signs of anxiety
• Loves going on car rides and can be taken anywhere!
• Crate trained and will sleep quietly in her crate at night
• Loves children and all people, she's a big snuggler!
• Well socialized with cats once she gets used to them
• Very intelligent and easy to train, as she is highly food motivated
• Walks very well on a leash when walked properly
• Knows Sit and Stay
• Very obedient and eager to please!
According to www.dogbreedinfo.com, the Weimaraner breed is several centuries old. One appears in a Van Dyck painting done in the early 1600s. There are various theories as to its origin. The Weimaraner is a pointer and an all-around personal hunting dog. He was originally used to hunt, track and bring down big game. As big game became scarce, he was adapted to smaller game and upland birds. He also has a reputation as a fine water retriever, though he may need to be taught to swim. The breed was first imported to the United States in 1929. Weimaraners appear frequently on Sesame Street, starring in skits while dressed up in human clothes. Some of its talents include: hunting, tracking, retrieving, pointing, watchdogging, guarding, police work, search & rescue, and agility. Naturally protective, they are brave and loyal. They are intelligent, but can be highly opinionated and willful; therefore, this breed should have firm, experienced training from the start. They are reserved with strangers and sometimes combative with other dogs. Socialize them well at an early age. Very brave and loyal, it has a strong prey instinct, so it should not be trusted with small non-canine animals. This is definitely not a herding or farm dog. The Weimaraner needs to live indoors as a member of the family. He needs attention and companionship. If relegated to a kennel or left alone too much, he can become very destructive and restless. Weimaraners are often kind to children, but are not recommended for very young ones because the dog is naturally energetic and may accidentally knock a child down. Because this breed is so full of energy, the first thing they need to learn is sit. This will prevent jumping in the future, as they are strong dogs and will knock someone over by accident. They are so eager to please, and motivated by reward (food or praise) Once a trick is learned, the dog will leap to repeat for praise. This breed likes to bark. A short lead is recommended for training, as the breed has a tendency to pull, because it wants to go where it wants to go. Very hardy, with a good sense of smell, and a passionate worker, the Weimaraner can be used for all kinds of hunting. They have a life expectancy of 10-12 years.
