Dog 4 a Day Update October:
September Foster Update: Pippa is such a sweetheart. She just loves people and getting petted. Just looking at her little face and wagging tail, you can tell that pleasing you is her ultimate goal! She likes nylabones and rope toys but you can also find her chewing on the corner of a towel or blanket on her dog bed. She likes being outside and chasing lizards. I've never seen her catch one but she has the cutest look on her face while watching and chasing them! She sleeps in her own crate at night and is quiet until we get up. She is a good little house "guest" and would love to find her very own family!
**Pippa is heartworm positive and does have a 1 out of 6 heart murmur. She runs around and acts like any other dog. We will supply you with literature and information at the time of adoption. If you are unfamiliar with heartworms, we recommend you speak to your vet about the slow kill method which is what we are using.
June 1 Foster Update: Pippa's tail is wagging ALL the time except for when she is sleeping! She loves attention, wants to please her people and if she hears the name of any dog, that tail starts right up. She also loves giving kisses. Their personalities are coming out more and more each day they are with us. We had guests staying with us over the weekend and from the moment they arrived, Pippa could not give them enough kisses. Papi also loves people and loves to know what is going on. He follows my husband everywhere when he is home and cries when he goes outside. He has started playing with toys, shaking towels and just being overall more energetic and playful. They don't have to be adopted together. They can be adopted individually or separately.
May 24, 2018 Foster Update: We have been fostering Pippa and Papito "Papi" for just over a week now. Their tails are wagging all the time! They are happy and full of kisses and so thankful to be in a house and getting attention. Now they just need their furever home! They were a bit cautious when they first arrived, more so Papi and more so with men. There was a bit of barking but they quickly figured out that petting was involved and attention! They sleep together in a large crate. They sleep all night and are quiet until they are let out of it in the morning, despite some of the other dogs in the house not always being quiet! Pippa has a bit of a sensitive tummy and does best just being on dry food with no changes and no wet food added. We have 4 other dogs in the house and other than the (rare) sibling rivalry, all is well. We do feed everybody separately. They do not chew on anything, they do not get into anything, which is awesome! The one exception we have found is the stuffing in a dog bed, but it had already been in progress of being unstuffed by another dog! We had a couple of little accidents at first but that is not unusual with a new dog coming into the house, especially the males who want to mark. We have been using a belly band on Papito when we cannot directly watch him but I do not think it is an ongoing issue and he will not need it at all soon. If you are interested in meeting these sweethearts, please submit an application on the website. They are waiting to meet you!
Pippa and Papito, siblings, were both found as strays and taken to a very high kill shelter. They are so sweet. She goes out in a playgroup with some of our other small dogs and they are crate trained. If you are interested in her please put an adoption application in and you will be assigned a screener who will be in touch with you through email.
Pippa is heartworm positive but that should not prevent her from finding her forever home. At time of adoption you will be supplied with literature regarding our slow kill method. Any questions regarding heartworms please call us. We also recommend that if you are not familiar with heartworms to speak to your veterinarian about the slow kill method.
