Description: Have you ever seen anything so little in all of your life? OK, here's the story... Just after Christmas, Judy received a phone call from a young man who had just found a litter of puppies on the side of the road. He said they were really young and had no momma. Could she help?
We've had situations like this. Unweaned puppies are hard ~ they have to be bottle fed ever two to three hours. They have to be stimulated to poop (lovely). They have to be kept warm. They have to be.... Well, you get the idea. It's hard. That's why almost all animal shelters euthanize such litters. They just don't have the ability to take care of them. And even with the best of care, they don't always make it.
Now, would you care to guess what Judy's response was to the gentleman. Yeah, you know her. "Absolutely! Bring them to me as soon as you can." We were worried because we expected him to bring them that day. But, ok, the next day he showed up with eight puppies! Oh my!!! Have I told you lately how wonderful our foster families are? We were able to divide them up a bit. Two families took two each. Another couple took four (they won't be sleeping any time soon). And just in case this isn't enough drama for you, one of the puppies has no front legs. We aren't sure if Tanker is going to make it. We're hoping. Have you seen the dog Faith? She has been on TV a lot lately. No front legs. Walks around on her back ones. Judy has chosen not to make "the" decision on this puppy. If he is strong enough to make it without a momma, Judy thinks he'll be strong enough to overcome his handicap. I guess we're a little crazy, huh? Well, not really. We're a rescue. It's what we do. We rescue the pets that no one else wants right now. That includes this litter that needs such intense care. That includes this puppy that is handicapped. We'll do our part. We'll trust God and our community to do the rest. I'll keep you posted....
This litter of puppies will not be ready for adoption until early March. About one week before they are fixed I will switch their status to Available for Adoption so you may put in an application for them. Please do not submit an application under another pet's name in an attempt to get your application in first. We do not adopt on a first come, first serve basis, but rather by finding the best home for the right pet. Thank you!
1/5 Update: Tanker is in a wonderful foster. She is caring for him and helping him get around. We have a good feeling about this!
3/01 Update: Tanker has been adopted into a wonderful family and renamed Art!
