Animal Success Stories

Second only to finding homes for our animals is the joy of hearing back from their new families.  We invite you to read along with us.  If you should decide to open up your heart and home to one of our angels, please send us a note and photo to tell us how it is going!  We will post it on this page so others can share in your happiness.

Thumper Lilly
Thumper Lilly

I met Thumper Lilly while doing cat care at Petsmart. I knew she'd been a 'long timer' when another volunteer asked, "is that the SAME Thumper Lilly? She's was here LAST year." Poor Thumper Lilly! I felt so sorry for her. I understand why she hadn't been adopted. She's painfully shy and very timid around people. But I found that with patience and a light touch, she'd trust a little and she gradually let me pet her. Then the motor started.... That purr along with her little elf fairie face and her little white paws did me in. I was a goner. I had to take her home. I adopted her as a gift to myself for my birthday. Unfortunately, my lovely plans of her becoming best friends with my other female didn't work out so well. They didn't care for each other and Lilly was so scared, I barely got to touch her. Believe it or not, it was FIVE MONTHS before I could really pet her. For all that time, she wouldn't let me near her and would run and hide if I even looked at her. It was clear any kind of bonding would have to be on her terms. I had to accept her for what she was - a houseguest with fur :) Finally, in recent weeks, she's become my pet cat instead of my houseguest. She's started sleeping on me, walking up to get petted and though she still runs when I walk towards her, she comes right back and settles in. It may take years for her to feel safe and comfortable enough to trust me completely, but she's worth the wait. Winning her trust has been so rewarding. It's helped teach me patience and acceptance. Volunteering with Pet Rescue By Judy has been great, especially when I get to see animals find their perfect homes. And that's what happened with Lilly and me. I'm grateful to all of the volunteers who saved her and took care of her. GO CAT LADIES! I've attached a picture of Lilly (tuxedo on the left) with my calico, Vista. ~ Stephanie H.

Tank the Bulldog
Tank the Bulldog

Hi! We just wanted to share with you and everyone how wonderful Moose (Tank) is. He is an adorable dog and we love him so much. He is doing great and has settled into a regular routine here in our home. He is one of the family and has many doggie friends in the neighborhood. He is enjoying the long walks, runs in the woods and all the affection we give. Best Wishes ~ Chris and Irene

Love Him!!!!!!! We now call him Baxter - and he is soooo good to our other cat which we were so concerned about. They get along just fine and she seems to have less anxiety as a result. Thanks for checking in ~ Amanda

Toes O'Riley the Very Special Puppy
Toes O'Riley the Very Special Puppy

Wendy, I apologize for not emailing sooner. I want to thank you from the bottom of my heart for the incredible care you gave Toes for the first four months of his life. He has been a wonderful addition to our family. As I am writing this he is curled up next to me. He has bonded with everyone in our family. A little more about us....there is my husband Mike who often walks Toes early in the morning and is responsible for putting him in his crate late at night, I have a daughter Tierney who is 20 and a student at UCF, she cannot wait for us to go out of town so Toes can come spend some time with her. My middle daughter Morgan,15 was not real sure about getting a dog but on one of our recent cold mornings he went in and jumped up in her bed to snuggle with her and he won her heart. My youngest daughter Devon,13 is the main reason we got another dog, she has shown us that she can be responsible by getting up early to let Toes out and she is trying very hard to learn how to feed him. She takes him out to play including to a nearby park to play and interact with other dogs. We took Toes to Tuskawilla Oaks per the adoption agreement and we could not believe how excited he was to go to the vet. They were so excited to see him and I have never had a pet that was glad to go to the vet. We will continue to use them. I have attached 2 pictures, one is of Toes and Devon and the other is Toes curled up with my computer. Thank you again for taking such great care of him, Janet M.
