Description: Brittney is a lovely Black and Tan Coonhound. She was rescued by one of our volunteers from a kill shelter the very day she was supposed to be put to sleep. Wow! that was a close call! I'm so glad Keri save her.
9/27 Foster Update: Brittney currently weighs 60 lbs, when animal control first got her, she weighed 40...you can see her spine and ribs still so I'm guessing she is going to be anywher from 80-90 lbs.
She is one big puppy, all limbs. She knows sit very well, and it looks like she knew lie down at one point. She just wants to play...you should have seen her at the park last night, she was so happy to be out and running around she didn't know what to do with herself! She was jumping over my dogs and everything! We haven't had an accident yet, but we are also still having issues trying to get her to eat. She seems to be afraid of the stairs...just doesn't know what to make of them, prefers to stay away from them right now. We went to the dog park today with some of the regulars who just fell in LOVE with her immediately...she was great with every size dog, every person, and every child. She just wants love. Yesterday when we first got her, she didn't want to walk, she just wanted to sit down, lean into you and get scratched. She has been craving love and going without for such a long time.
She was an owner surrender after she was found in an elementary school playground. The owners were called and they said "we don't want her." Since she had wire wrapped around her collar, missing hair on her side, and she was labeled a "fence jumper" by that owner we can safely assume she was tied up in the back yard. She currently has no idea what a toy is but is extremely curious about everything!
Our only problem right now is food aggression with dogs. PEople can pull food right out of her mouth, but she guards her food from other dogs. We think when her belly is fully and she is no longer starving, this trait will go away. This is easy to control though by feeding the dogs seperately...we do that here at home anyways just because our dogs will steal each other's food (even though they eat the same food!!)
She has been such a good girl and will make any family a wonderful addition!!!
10/01 Update: Brittney’s food aggression is already subsiding. She still eats in her crate, but she just watches the others walk by now! Her manners are coming quickly! She sits, lays down, and comes. We are working on stay — she’s got the concept, but she is just soooo wiggly and happy that I’m giving her attention, she just can’t contain herself! You just look at her, and everything about her exudes happiness — not normal happiness — sheer over-the-top excitement…like a kid in a candy store or any time a young child goes to Disney World. This dog just makes me smile!
