Description: I love Bayou's ears. They do that one-ear-up-one-ear-down thing that I think is adoooooorable! This little girl had just about run out of time at a kill shelter when she was pulled out by a kind woman who has a heart for such dogs. She asked us to help find her a home. Come on, have you seen those ears? How hard will that be!?! We're guessing that Bayou is a lab/collie mix. She is rather petite, hence the Border Collie guess, but she has a labby face. According to her foster, she is loves to play with the other puppy she is fostering. "She rough houses a lot. She actually is potty trained pretty well. She goes in her crate in the middle of the night; but when she's out, she will scratch the back door when she needs to go out. Very sweet; kisses and play bites my toes. She does well with other dogs, and I'm sure would do fine with kids and cats too. " Oh, and her name? Judy says it's "By You", as in "She needs to be loved by you!!!" Love this pup! I'm sure you will too!!!
9/13 Foster Update: Bayou is a very cool pup! She's got lots and lots of puppy energy and LOVES to run around in the grass! She enjoys playing nonstop with the other puppy I have at my house and loves her chew toys. She definately has some collie in her, as she is very mouthy and sometimes nips at my heels like a typical collie would do until they learn that it's not appropriate behavior. She's very social with my dogs, and is doing well with learning good manners. Bayou is very smart and extremely intuitive. I certainly wouldn't want to make any promises, but I think that she would be exceptional at agility and she is going to be easy to train. Come on, have you ever heard of a puppy that lets you know when they have to go out by scratching on the back door? Honestly though, she minds me very well and is very eager to please. She'll be a wonderful pet for someone who is looking for a fun dog! Oh, and she loves to play fetch with people (and yes, she does bring it back) and keepaway with dogs (what dog doesn't?). The way she plays fetch is so cute because instead of running to the toy, she hops like a bunny over to it. It's so adorable!
*** According to www.dogbreedinfo.com, the Labrador Retriever is a loving, affectionate, lovable, patient dog. Once known as the "St John's Dogs," the Labrador Retriever is one of the most popular breeds in the United States. Originally from Newfoundland, Canada the Labrador was trained to jump overboard into the icy waters to haul fisherman's nets to shore. Specimens were brought to England in the 1800's by English ships coming from Labrador, where the dog's fine retrieving instincts were honed and developed. One of the best family dogs and canine companions because of their gentle, loving disposition, the highly trainable Labrador also excels in drug detection, as a guide for the blind, and service dog for the disabled. The breed is also an outstanding obedience and field trial competitor. Highly intelligent, loyal, willing, and high-spirited. Lively and good-natured, they love to play, especially in water - for they love to swim. They have an excellent, reliable, temperament and are friendly, superb with children and equable with other dogs. They crave human attention and need to feel as though they are part of the family. Labs are easily trained. These dogs are watchdogs, not guard dogs, although some have been known to guard. They have a life expectancy of 10-12 years.
