Description:
Kiya is an elegant looking dog. You'll never believe how she arrived in our care. Michelle dropped by Judy's house to pick something up and found the gate open. There in the drive way was a crate. Inside the crate was a dog and her three puppies. No food. No water. No note. Who leaves a little family like this in the blazing Florida summer sun with no shade or water? That is inhumane!
Kaily is fostering this family and learning more about them every day. We don't really know what breed they are. Momma Kiya looks like a small Catahoula/Greyhound mix to me. Kaily says she looks like a petite Rhodesian Ridgeback minus the ridge. The puppies all look like Boxers, but since we have no idea who the daddy is....
Kiya has proven to be a delight. She loves to get attention and give attention, She has cared for her puppies as best she can but is looking forward to her own home where someone will care for her. Be sure to check out the video at the bottom of this page.

8/19 Foster Update:
Kiya has quite a bit of energy. I would say no small kids- not because she would be bad with kids, but because she's very strong and very clumsy when she does get playful. She's solid muscle. Her tail (and whole body) wags so hard that it she could knock a small kid over with it. It's the happiest thing you've ever seen, but I would say she's do best with kids that can stand their ground. She would make an EXCELLENT running partner! Like I said, she doesn't pull on a leash, but she's not quite sure how to properly walk on a leash yet. She should have a forever home with a yard (and maybe another dog with energy and some mass). She's doing great with my 2 other dogs and with her babies (she doesn't instigate annoyingly like some dogs do). She's quite young. Her teeth are all squeaky clean. I'd say she's a year old maybe. Maybe even younger. She still has that "puppy" energy. It's not too much, it's just still fun. When called, she will come sit on the couch with me and snuggle up. What a love she is. You would think that she would be more apprehensive to strange things after what's happened to her, but not Kiya. She was very accepting of my two other dogs (28 and 46 lbs). She does try to chance my foster cat though. I've been working on that with her. She also loves her crate and prefers sleeping in there as opposed to the dog beds I have. She sleeps downstairs in her crate and doesn't cry. She does know to go potty outside instead of in the house. However, she doesn't know that it's ok to go to the bathroom while on a leash (which is why she'll do better in a home with a yard). The steadfast love and loyalty this dog gives brings joy unlike any other.

8/20 Foster Update: Ok, have you ever seen people running with their dogs, and their dogs are right next to them looking up at them during the whole run? That's Kiya! I took her on a brief run tonight (about 1.5 miles) and she is an awesome running partner! She does not pull on her leash at all (even when she walks on a leash). She loved the run. I've also come to learn that she is in fact house trained. She only had one accident the first night I got her, but that was because she didn't know she was supposed to relieve herself while on a leash yet. She hasn't had one since then and has started to understand that the leash means "bathroom break." What an amazing forever friend she is going to make. My mom came over today and commented on how sweet she is.

9/01 Foster Update: We all went to the dog park yesterday, and Kiya is quite the social butterfly. She did really well with the other dogs and loved running around, greeting everyone. I've only consecutively had her in my care for a week and a half, but she already listens very well to my boyfriend and me. She listens VERY WELL as you can see in the video of us at the dog park. When at the dog park, all I have to do is whistle and say "Kiya come" and she is right back next to us. She would be amazing for a someone who wants their dog to "keep them young" because she is easy to have fun with. She really is a wonderful dog. She
