Description: Marcus is a very cool Beagle. Very handsome, has a semi-docked tail ~ that or it's very short and the other dogs make fun of him. He is very friendly, great with kids, great with dogs, great with cats. Unfortunately, he isn't great with horses. He likes to chase them. Care to guess what animals his owner had? Yup, horses. Sure, he could be like, I don't know, into chasing elephants. See, that's something that he probably wouldn't have gotten into trouble over. But horses, well, you don't want to chase horses. It isn't good for anyone involved. So sweet, fun-loving Marcus is all about finding a home without horses. Somehow I think we're going to be able to do that!
8/2 Foster Update: "We picked up Marcus the beagle from the shelter today. He and my daughter are getting along great! He loves to play fetch, walks well on a leash, responds to basic commands, and is an all-around lovable dog."
8/14 Foster Update: "Marcus is an interesting Beagle-Mix. One man that met him thought he saw Bloodhound in him while another woman thought his "spots" resembled those of a Catahoula. He has a very unique "nub" of a tail that he wags up and down, not side to side like other dogs (it's actually very cute!). He loves to play with other dogs and would do well in a house that already has a dog or two. He also LOVES to run and play fetch, so I think he'd do best in a house with a fenced yard. Marcus loves to be around people! If you're outside, he wants to out there with you playing fetch or running with you. If you're inside he'll curl up next to you on the couch and relax. He is absolutely GREAT with children. My 2 year old daughter loves to hold his "hands", as she calls them, and dance with him. He lets her pull on his tail, tug at his ears, and wrap her arms around him to give hugs. What does he do in return? He showers her with kisses and follows her around! " How much do you know about Beagles? According to www.dogbreedinfo.com, the Beagle is one of the most popular scent hounds because of his energy, willingness, and merry, sweet disposition. The breed probably originated as a cross between the Harrier and other hounds in England. The Beagle has been used in packs, alone, and in pairs, for hunting hare, pheasant and quail. He has also served as an excellent narcotics detection dog and makes a fine family companion. The Beagle is a gentle, sweet, lively and curious dog that just loves everyone! A happy little tail-wagger! Sociable, brave and intelligent. Calm and loving. Excellent with children and generally good with other dogs, but should not be trusted with non-canine pets, unless they are socialized with cats and other household animals when they are young. Beagles have minds of their own. They are determined and watchful and require patient, firm training. This breed doesn't like being left alone. Consider buying two if you will be gone a lot. A Beagle has a loud baying cry that was a delight to hunting horsemen, but can be disturbing to family and neighbors. Beagles have a tendency to follow their own noses. They may take off on their own exploration if let off their leash in an unfenced area. Energetic and possessing great stamina, the Beagle needs plenty of exercise, but a yard of reasonable size will take care of most of its requirements. A brisk daily walk will cover the rest. Always use a lead when walking this breed or you will be running the risk of it disappearing in search of wild game. They have a life expectancy of about 12-15 years.
