Description: Katie is a beautiful Yellow Lab that we rescued from a high kill shelter in Georgia just before she was scheduled to be gassed to death. Gosh! She was so grateful that, according to her foster, "she made her tail bleed from wagging it so much. Even while changing her bandages and putting peroxide on her which she really hated, she still kept licking me and being sweet. She got the back part of her tail amputated and is walking around like if nothing happened to her still happy as can be."
As you can imagine, it wasn't long before Katie was adopted by a lovely couple. Sadly, they contacted us eight months later, asking our assistance in finding her a new home. No fault of Katie's ~ their situation had changed and they found themselves away from home too much to give her the attention she needs. They knew it wasn't fair to this sweet girl, so they are hoping another family with time and space can give her the life she deserves! This is how they describe her:
"Katie is a very sweet, gentle and friendly girl. She is about 18 months old. She loves to run and mingle with the other dogs at the dog park. She is very active and needs a family with a yard. She likes to play with toys and chew on her bones. She sleeps all night long and doesn't bark too much. She loves all people including children. She has never growled or nipped at anyone. I don't know how she would react to a cat. She is completely housetrained and will come and tell you when she needs to go out. Katie is very kind and loves lots of attention."
*** How familiar are you with the Labrador Retriever? According to www.dogbreedinfo.com, the Labrador Retriever is a loving, affectionate, lovable, patient dog. Once known as the "St John's Dogs," the Labrador Retriever is one of the most popular breeds in the United States. Originally from Newfoundland, Canada the Labrador was trained to jump overboard into the icy waters to haul fisherman's nets to shore. Specimens were brought to England in the 1800's by English ships coming from Labrador, where the dog's fine retrieving instincts were honed and developed. One of the best family dogs and canine companions because of their gentle, loving disposition, the highly trainable Labrador also excels in drug detection, as a guide for the blind, and service dog for the disabled. The breed is also an outstanding obedience and field trial competitor. Highly intelligent, loyal, willing, and high-spirited. Lively and good-natured, they love to play, especially in water - for they love to swim. They have an excellent, reliable, temperament and are friendly, superb with children and equable with other dogs. They crave human attention and need to feel as though they are part of the family. Labs are easily trained. These dogs are watchdogs, not guard dogs, although some have been known to guard. They have a life expectancy of 10-12 years.
