Description: Banjo is a hysterical lab/hound puppy. We rescued him from a kill shelter when the administrator, Mary Beth called and asked Judy to come get him and his girlfriend, Bagel. Mary Beth knew it was unlikely they would get adopted in the limited amount of time that she had for them because they have mange. Now, if you aren't familiar with mange, allow me the opportunity to educate you a bit. There are two types of mange ~ one is contageous, the other is not. These two have the latter, the non-contageous type. It is just a condition that is cleared up with a 30 day treatment of ivermectin, the active ingrediant in heartworm preventive. Judy came by my house on the way home from the shelter so I could take pictures of Banjo and Bagel. You should have seen Banjo bound out of the van! You'd have laughed. He was all, "Isn't life wonderful? Do you want to play?" Just a doll. He's really a good looking guy too. You can see the hound in him, with all the loose skin on his face and body. He probably won't be ready for his new home until mid-July. In the meanwhile, we would love to get him into a foster home, preferably one with a fenced in yard where he can romp to his heart's content. If you are interested in fostering, please complete a foster application. And if you would like to help offset his expenses for us, please complete a sponsor form. Thank you all!
07/01 Banjo has been neutered, his skin condition has cleared up, and he is anxious to find his forever home!!!
Foster update 7/3: Banjo is a wonderful dog! We've only been fostering him for a few days and already we can see how sweet he is and what a kind, loving nature he has. He is very loyal and will follow you around all day. He loves to play fetch in the backyard, but his favorite thing to do, by far, is to play tug of war! He could play for hours! Banjo is a very easy-going dog too. He likes cats, other dogs, and just every kind of person in general. He's a quiet dog but he has quite alot of energy and so if your thinking about adopting make sure you have time to devote for him, so he gets lots of exercise and play time. He's also housebroken and crate trained. Banjo is a GREAT dog, he deserves a family that will care for him and give him plenty of love, that he will return in even greater amounts.
8/7 Foster Update: Banjo was bitten by a snake! Oh my word! His leg blew up right away, poor little guy. Thank goodness his foster has years of experience with dogs. She knew exactly what to do. He is doing fine now, still on antibiotics, but fine. Meanwhile, he continues to impress his foster family with his antics. He knows sit and shake, he dances in a circle on his back legs for a treat, his fully housetrained, sleeps on the bed with daughters,.... he is wonderful!!! His mange is almost completely cleared up. Banjo is going to make a family very very happy!
8/25 Update: Seriously, I'm in stitches. Banjo's foster, Michelle, told me that Banjo can jump straight up in the air, shoulder height. She was making dinner and in walks Banjo. He starts jumping up and down, up and down. Her daughters are sitting at the dining room table doing their homework watching out of the corner of their eyes. There is a breakfast bar between them and Banjo. There's Banjo; now he's gon. There's Banjo; now he's gone..... Michelle said it was an absolute riot!
