Description:
Whimsy is a tiny little long haired Chihuahua. I mean, she is little! Only about 6 pounds. She is our miracle dog. On Memorial Day Weekend she had emergency surgery at Tuskawilla Oaks Animal Hospital. She had two protruding hernias rupture. To make matters worse, they were completely intertwined with her intestines. Whimsey actually died on the table!!! For five minutes Dr Fullenwiller manually resusitated her until she was able to breath on her own! Have I told you lately how blessed we are by ou wonderful vets? We truly are.
Whimsy is doing very well now. The vet told us that there is a possibility that the hernias may reoccur, so her adopting family will want to keep an eye on it.
Whimsy is a survivor and a fiesty little gal. She can be a bit of a nipper, so no little kids nor hectic households. Whimsy knows that she should be the center of the universe and she is looking for a home that will recognize her for the wonder that she is!!! We are qualifiying her for our Seniors For Seniors program: if adopted by a senior citizen her adoption donation will be lowered to just $50. For the rest of us spring chickens, it is $100.
We have a mountain of Medical bills to pay. We don't regret one penny, but we sure could use some help. If you would like to help by sponsoring her, we would love you forever!!!

FOSTER UPDATE (8/18/08): This little lady is truly something special. Since taking her in I have determined that she is in fact deaf and startles easily. However, once you figure out what it is that works for her and what it is that doesn't ~ she is just heaven sent!

I am certain after all that she has been through, in addition to her age, Whimsey's time with us may not be an extremely long one BUT she looks at you with such love and appreciation that you just cannot avoid making the mindful effort that the days remaining for her are truly the most comfortable and the overall best. She's older, she's frail and she's uncertain of transitions but she's dependent on you, she's loving and she's a snuggler once she knows that you are her provider and her protector.

Aside from a growth of scar tissue that has developed in her groin area as a result of her hernia surgery, her other obstacles are merely age related. In honesty though, the scar tissue growth is quite large, however, our Rescue Vet does not recommend any type of procedure and/or anesthesia for this little girl after her last introduction to the angels (even if only for a brief moment).

According to www.dogbreedinfo.com, the Chihuahua is the oldest breed on the American continent and the smallest breed in the world. Native to Mexico, nonetheless it seems to have been introduced by the Chinese. It was only brought to Europe at the end of the nineteenth century. The Chihuahua is named after the Mexican state of Chihuahua where he was brought to the rest of the world by travelers. This breed is believed to have been sacred to the Pre-Columbian Indian nations. The Chihuahua is a popular, economical companion dog. Courageous, extremely lively, proud and enterprising, it gives and demands affection. Bold and saucy, it moves swiftly to avoid being stepped on. Chihuahua's are strong-willed, intensely loyal and become very attached to their owners, even to the point of jealousy. They like to lick their owner's faces. It is undeniably suspicious of people except for its owner. When strangers are present, it follows its owner's every move, keeping as close as possible. This breed may snap at teasing children, after all it is too tiny to get away. The Chihuahua must resort to his sharp teeth in self defense. It is not recommended for children. He can be noisy and may require patience to housebreak. Many owners simply paper train this breed. The Chihuahua hates the cold and may shiver, although this may be due to high metabolism as much as temperature or anxiety. It will tolerate and even appreciate a warm sweater on cooler days. They are good little dogs for apartment life. Although it is tempting to carry these dainty creatures about, they will keep fitter if taken for walks. A body harness is safer than a collar. Don't think that just because he is small he should be confined to a small space. Chihuahuas have a life expectancy of 15 or more years.
