Texas was found as a stray. This sweet shy terrier was running loose with another dog. They were rescued by a caring dog lover and then waited at animal control for there owners. No one came to get them and since poor sweet Texas tested positive for heartworms (even a super light case as his) he was not given a chance at adoption. Texas is now with us and is looking for a furever home that will love and care for him as he should!

Texas has recently tested positive for Demodex Mange.

Like many dogs in the South, Texas is heartworm positive (very light positive) , but don't let that stop you from adopting a great dog. We are treating him with monthly heartworm preventative, our preferred method. Many heartworm positive dogs go on to lead long and healthy lives.

PRBJ treats ALL of our dogs with monthly Heartworm preventative. Heartworms are transmitted to dogs via mosquitoes. Humans do not contract heartworms. Heartworm positive (HW+ ) dogs are treated with the recommended slow kill method, using monthly HW preventative as it is gentler on the animal’s system than the more invasive injection method. Most dogs that are Heartworm positive can lead healthy, normal lives if the worms are caught early and treatment began. There are different options to treat HW and new owners may choose to redirect their type of treatment with direction of their vet. All HW+ dogs have a HW slow treatment info sheet in their adoption folder which will be provided to new owners.

The Terrier is a good-natured, amusing, extremely loyal and affectionate family pet, which is good with children and adults. Almost always obedient, it is always eager to please its master. It is an extremely courageous and intelligent guard dog that is very full of vitality. They are highly protective of their owners and the owner's property. It is usually very friendly, but has an uncanny ability to know when it needs to protect and when everything is okay. Excellent with children in the family, they have a high pain tolerance and will happily put up with rough child play. As with any breed, they should not be left alone with unfamiliar children. Used as all around working farm dogs, they were referred to as "the poor mans horse". They are strong and generally weigh between 40 and 70 lbs. They have a life expectancy of about 12 - 14 years.
