Description:
Brady is a great big lovable dog with a Saint Bernard face and an English Bulldog body. He isn't as big or as hairy as you might expect in a St. Bernard mix, but, boy, is he a powerhouse! He weighs in at a mere 77 pounds but it is all muscle.

Update 06/27/10:  Poor Brady!!  We thought we had found the perfect home for him, but his owners are now traveling three days and week and will sometimes be gone for two weeks at at time.  They have been boarding Brady, but don't feel that is the best situation for him long-term.  Here is what they had to say about Brady:

I want to now tell you about this wonderful dog that we adopted from you.   When we first brought Brady home he didn't trust us.  When we tried to brush his hair he would snap at us. If he saw another dog he would act out of control, and trying to walk him was so hard as he would tug and pull us down the road.  But that was the old Brady.  The dog we are returning to you is now so sweet and gentle.  He lets us brush him and he will roll over so that you can even brush his stomach.  When he sees other dogs now he will sometimes try to pull to get to them but for the most part he iqnors them and keeps walking. If you say to him "Do you want to go for a walk" He can hardly stand the wait for his chain to go on. He listens to us when we tell him to sit when a car is coming and when we tell him to stop, he will not pull us, He listens now to commands.

Adopted from us a while back, his owner is moving across country and has asked us to help find him a home. Let me share with you what she has shared with me:

"Brady is a very lovable dog. He likes to go on walks and run. He also likes to play fetch with a stuffed toy. He provides get protection to any home. He is a cuddler. He loves cheese and steak. Likes to be next to someone when they are just watching tv or reading. Loves to sit in the yard, will sit outside for hours when it is nice. He is housebroken and crate trained, knows Sit and can give you his paw. Brady doesn't like men wearing baseball hats when he first meets them. Also, he doesn't like napkins, haven't figured out why. He hates thunder and lighting and will go under a bed or pillow if he can. He is not a fan of baths and will not really ever go in the bathroom. Brady does dig holes for his bones sometimes. Other than that he is a great dog and I am very upset that I have surrender him. He came from Judy and I know they will find him a good home."

5/16 update from volunteer who has spent time with Brady:
"Brady was such a sweet boy…and is very much loved by his owners. I guess his immediate owner is moving away and her mother cannot take care of Brady (since he is so powerful) all by herself. It was very hard for her to leave him and pick him back up.
Brady originally came from a crack house. I am under the impression that it was a police sting, and he was removed and either taken to Judy right off the bat or Animal Control and then to Judy. He was about a 1-1 1/2 years old at the time. He had been seriously abused. There are still two things he has a problem with:

1) Using paper towels to clean up anything. He immediately will begin to growl and show his teeth with the paper towel.

2) He cannot be combed or brushed, he is terrified of it. I cannot remember if he gets aggressive, but the owner said she had given up on it.
He is a strong boy, but does not overly pull on the leash. He loved it when our volunteers would sit with him, he would immediately circle and sit down with his side always touching the person, assuring he got scratched. He was patient with the puppies and seemed to do well with most dogs in his presence; however he did bark his head off at a very large, intact Doberman Pinscher.
He was actually playing with a 12 week old Chihuahua puppy and having the time of his life! He is large, but definitely not the full size of a Saint Bernard or Mastiff…on the small size for both breeds, probably could lose a few extra pounds as well.
Once again, it would be great if we could get him in a foster home. You could really see how worried he was to be at Petco and I really worry that lack of individual attention might bring back old fears."

6/23 Update from Judy:
Brady is American bulldog size, loves to swim, run, take walks, good on leash, can be an only dog, doesn't bother other dogs.

Foster update 10/7: He really loves to run for one thing, he is better running on the leash then he is walking. He pulls a little when we are walking. He doesn't like it when someone lays on him, next to him is fine.

Foster update 10/27: I’ve had Brady in my home for about 3 weeks. He really is a loving dog. He would be an amazing dog for someone that wants protection. When someone even gets close to my apartment he barks and growls. He is starting to get better while walking on the leach, he really loves to run. He would love to have a home with yard, but he is doing fine in my one bedroom apartment. I would really love to adopt him (he is just that great) but I am in the military and I will be deploying in 2010.

I haven’t seen him interact with children but I can imagine that he would be just as protective with them, as long as they have appropriate behavior.
