Fil and his buddy Felippo were found as strays wandering the streets. These tiny Chihuahua's seemed to be well cared for but had extremely long nails which were curled into there paws. They have since been seen by a vet and are ready for adoption. Although they came intogether they have a brotherly love hate relationship and we believe they could be adopted seprately as they are not depended on each other.

Here is what Fil's foster family has to say about him:
• Energy Level: Moderate

• Food: Fil eats a small amount of Natural Choice adult dry dog food.

• Adaptability: Fil is adapting fairly well to the house. He is still learning house rules and overcoming his shyness, but he enjoys being picked up and carried as well as sleeping on the bed at night.

• Behaviors: The only slightly “bad” behavior Fil has is play biting. He will become excited and paw at your hand lightly (an action that is extremely cute) and will then playfully and lightly put his mouth around your finger or somewhere on your hand. To decrease the chances of his playful biting transcending to nipping, we are working on teaching him to play without biting.

• Human Social Skills: Fil is friendly towards everyone. He has shown no signs of aggression. He is still rather shy and will seem like he wants to come towards you but then backs away as if he’s not sure, and then repeats these actions all the while wagging his tail and pawing the air. I think he is just unsure about how to be petted and interact with humans, but he is friendly.

• Animal Social Skills: Fil will interact with the other dogs. He has tried to play with our dogs, but being middle aged and much bigger than he is, they didn’t show any real interest.

• Obedience: Fil does not respond to any obedience commands or walk well on a leash. We believe that given his tiny stature, no one has ever required him to learn basic commands.

• Training: Given a structured schedule and supervision, Fil is mostly housetrained but has had a few accidents. We are currently working to completely house train him. He is a bit slower to learn commands.

• Personality Quirks: Fil is a friendly and excited dog that with attention can be a wonderful playmate. He has this tendency to paw the air and, in a way, prance around with his paws high in the air.

• Ideal Home: Fil would be best with an active family and could make a great playmate for another dog. He is somewhat shy, but isn’t nippy so he would probably be fine around younger children. He loves to sleep in the bed and would love to be your snuggle buddy.

It is undeniably suspicious of people except for its owner. When strangers are present, it follows its owner's every move, keeping as close as possible. This breed may snap at teasing children, after all it is too tiny to get away. The Chihuahua must resort to his sharp teeth in self defense. It is not recommended for children. He can be noisy and may require patience to housebreak. Many owners simply paper train this breed. The Chihuahua hates the cold and may shiver, although this may be due to high metabolism as much as temperature or anxiety. It will tolerate and even appreciate a warm sweater on cooler days. They are good little dogs for apartment life. Although it is tempting to carry these dainty creatures about, they will keep fitter if taken for walks. A body harness is safer than a collar. Don't think that just because he is small he should be confined to a small space. Chihuahuas have a life expectancy of 15 or more years.
