Usher was rescued from hoarding/neglect situation along with 22 other dogs. This sweet little Shepherd Mix Puppy will surely find a forever home were he will be loved and well care for.
Usher is healing from puppy mange and is currently being treated. If adopted we will provide oral medication to help with this condition.
Here is what Usher's foster family passed along on behalf of Usher:
Leash Manners -I haven't had much exposure thus far, and I get confused and freeze sometimes
Crate/House Training - I am crate trained and haven't had an accident in my crate. I had one accident but my foster dad said it was his fault because he didn't take me out or put me to bed in crate before he fell asleep and I wake up a lot faster than him.
Socialization - I had a rough start in life, but I love my Foster sister (70 lb Lab) and smaller dogs. Big dogs sometimes scare me and I just freeze, but I am not aggressive at all. I have meet the neighbor Kids (5-7 years old) and they seem ok, I need some more exposure to give you an accurate report
Energy Level and Exercise - I am very high energy and playful. I like to run around in the yard with my Foster sister and Dad. I need a lot of excessive and play time!
Daily Structure and Schedule - I go out first thing in the morning, take my medicine, and eat my breakfast. I have 30 minutes of quiet time and then Dad lets me out side again. My Sister and play till dad has to go to work. I get to go with him and enjoy car rides. I go out 2 times while a work to avoid accidents, so I haven't had any there. Some days we don't go to work and if am allowed I go with dad, but other times I just stay in my kennel. Dinner time is about 6-6:30. I get another 30 minutes of quiet time after dinner then I go outside again. I play with my sister or watch TV with Dad when I get tired. One more time out before bed time then I go to my kennel to Sleep. Sometimes I cry for a few minutes, because I don't think I am ready for bed time.
Confidence Level - My foster sister is helping me come out of my shell, but I do get nervous or freeze sometimes when she is not around and I don't know what I am supposed to do. I enjoy playing with other small dogs. I need to be told "It is ok" and I start to wag my tail.
Obedience Training - I am a puppy so my training is in the very early stages. I know "no" working on "Sit" and "come" and how to walk on a leash.
Behaviors - I am a puppy so keep your eyes on me, If it is on the floor or I can put my mouth on it it is mine! I cry if I can't see my sister or daddy, but I do calm down in a few minutes.
Personality Quirks - I have bad skin that I am taking medication for, but my foster daddy thinks I am going to be a handsome boy when my hair grows back. I am still kind of nervous, but I am gaining confidence every day.
Ideal Home - I would do well in a home where I get lots of attention and has someone or other pets to play with. I like the company. I need a yard with room to romp and play.
***According to dogbreedinfo.com, in April 1899, Capt. Max von Stephanitz registered a dog named Horan as the first Deutsche Schäferhunde, which means German Shepherd Dog in English. Known for their tremendous loyalty and courage, they are calmly confident, but not hostile. This breed needs his people and should not be left isolated for long periods of time. They only bark when it is necessary. Serious and almost human in his intelligence, they have a high learning ability. The breed is so intelligent and learns so readily that it has been used as a sheepdog, guard dog, in police work, as a guide for the blind, in search and rescue service, and in the military. The German Shepherd also excels in many other dog activities including schutzhund, tracking, obedience, agility, flyball, and ring sport. His fine nose can sniff out drugs and intruders, and can alert handlers to the presence of underground mines in time to avoid detonation, or gas leaks in a pipes buried 15 feet underground. A quick daily brushing is best unless hair in the house is not a problem. They should be bathed rarely, only once or twice a year to avoid skin oil depletion. Shepherds have a life expectancy around 13 years.
