Description:

Neo came to us with his friend Nell from a high kill shelter. Neo is super shy but a little TLC will bring him out of his shell.

Foster Update:

  • Leash Manners - Neo loves to go for walk, he does not pull or try to run away he actually does the opposite. Neo will stay by your side the entire time you are on the walk. But when he hears a loud noise he tends to hide behind you or anything close to him.
  • Crate/House Training - Neo is 100% house and crate trained. I leave him out in my room while I go to school and when I come home he is just laying down with one of his many toys.
  • Socialization - When he first meets someone new he will go the other way because when he first came to us he wouldn't let anyone come around without him hiding but once he stays by the person or dog for a couple of minutes he will try and follow you everywhere just to get more loving.
  • Energy Level and Exercise - Like most puppies he has a high energy level. He is used to going outside and running around with two other dogs until he feels it's time to take a break.
  • Daily Structure and Schedule - Since I go to school Neo is used to going outside early in the morning while I am getting ready. Then he goes to bed but when I get home we either go for a little run or just play outside. He is used to getting fed twice a day. Neo eats Purina Puppy Chow, I like to keep him on dry food only.
  • Behaviors - The only behavior if any he has would be he is very shy when it comes to new people. But we are working with him everyday.
  • Ideal Home - I would have to say Neo would be best suited for a family that has a dog around his size so that he has another dog to learn positive social behavior from.  If he has a playmate, you can tell he's much happier as you watch his little tail wag.  He also needs a family who would have time to play with him outside and to take him to dog parks so that he gets plenty of exercise.

* According to www.dogbreedinfo.com, the Labrador Retriever is a loving, affectionate, lovable, patient dog. Once known as the "St John's Dogs," the Labrador Retriever is one of the most popular breeds in the United States. Originally from Newfoundland, Canada the Labrador was trained to jump overboard into the icy waters to haul fisherman's nets to shore. Specimens were brought to England in the 1800's by English ships coming from Labrador, where the dog's fine retrieving instincts were honed and developed. One of the best family dogs and canine companions because of their gentle, loving disposition, the highly trainable Labrador also excels in drug detection, as a guide for the blind, and service dog for the disabled. The breed is also an outstanding obedience and field trial competitor. Highly intelligent, loyal, willing, and high-spirited. Lively and good-natured, they love to play, especially in water - for they love to swim. They have an excellent, reliable, temperament and are friendly, superb with children and equable with other dogs. They crave human attention and need to feel as though they are part of the family. Labs are easily trained. These dogs are watchdogs, not guard dogs, although some have been known to guard. They have a life expectancy of 10-12 years.
