Allister is a sweet little Shih Tzu mix.He was rescued from a high kill shelter He wants to be around you at all times and really loves people. This little senior dog enjoys being a lap hog and loves people!

Allister qualifies for our Senior for Senior program. If adopted by a senior person (55+) then his adoption fee is $75.

Like many dogs in the South, Allister is heartworm positive, but don't let that stop you from adopting a great dog. We are treating him with monthly heartworm preventative, our preferred method. Many heartworm positive dogs go on to lead long and healthy lives.

PRBJ treats ALL of our dogs with monthly Heartworm preventative. HW+ dogs are treated with the recommended slow method, using monthly HW preventative as it is gentler on the animal’s system than the more invasive, injection method. Most dogs that are Heartworm positive can lead healthy, normal lives if the disease is caught early and treatment began. There are different options to treat HW and new owners may choose to redirect their type of treatment with direction of their vet. All HW+ dogs have a HW slow treatment info sheet in their adoption folder which will be provided to new owners.

Are you unfamiliar with the Shih Tzu breed? Pronounced SHEET-sue, they are known as alert, spunky, happy and hardy. They are bred with an underbite which gives them a constant "smile." Traditionally, their coat is kept long, with ears blending into the body, distinct mustache, and a top knot secured with a bow. However, in our Florida climate, many are clipped short to relieve them of the heat. An alert watch dog, Shih Tzus like to bark but are usually quiet in the house. Originally from China, they were a favorite of the Imperial Chinese court and so revered that for many years after the Chinese began trading with the West, they refused to sell, or even give away, any of the little dogs.
