Description:

Sol and his sister Summer came from a high kill shelter. These sweet puppies are in need of some good homes to help them become more confident and feel loved!

Summer and Sol are currently being treated for demodex mange. If adopted we will provide there new owners with medication to continue to treat there mange.

Foster Update:  We have been working with Sol for one week. He is very shy with people, but never shows any signs of aggression due to shyness or fear - he just tends to cower from people, but, after building a little trust (with lots of treats - peanut butter being his favorite), he has gotten better. It took him several days to come out of his crate on his own (his crate is his sanctuary - anyone who adopts him will need it), but he does come out on his own several times a day now! He is very dog friendly, even though he was shy at first with our dogs, he quickly came around. He loves to play with our 80 pound black lab who is much taller than him and our 40 pound Bassett mix who is much shorter than him, and we had a friend's pit bull over for the weekend, and he loved her, too. He is completely housetrained and crate trained. We leave the crate door open so that he can use the doggie door to go outside, and he has never had an accident in the house - even the first few days when he spent all of his time in his crate - we had to literally drag him outside, but now, he comes out with a little prompting or, if no one is in the room, he will come out on his own to go outside. He loves to chew toys, which is something new, as his first few days he did little but sleep. We have even gotten a few tail wag and puppy kisses from him and will continue working on his socialization. He would be a great dog for someone who wants a loyal companion, as I believe he will become very attached to someone once they gain his trust. I also believe that he will be best served by living in a home with at least 1 other dog who he can play with and interact with. He is very quiet and calm and very sweet - he just needs tlc - someone to love him and gain his trust. His skin is also healing, and his hair is growing back. He will be beautiful in no time!!

*** According to www.dogbreedinfo.com, the Labrador Retriever is a loving, affectionate, lovable, patient dog. Once known as the "St John's Dogs," the Labrador Retriever is one of the most popular breeds in the United States. Originally from Newfoundland, Canada the Labrador was trained to jump overboard into the icy waters to haul fisherman's nets to shore. Specimens were brought to England in the 1800's by English ships coming from Labrador, where the dog's fine retrieving instincts were honed and developed. One of the best family dogs and canine companions because of their gentle, loving disposition, the highly trainable Labrador also excels in drug detection, as a guide for the blind, and service dog for the disabled. The breed is also an outstanding obedience and field trial competitor. Highly intelligent, loyal, willing, and high-spirited. Lively and good-natured, they love to play, especially in water - for they love to swim. They have an excellent, reliable, temperament and are friendly, superb with children and equable with other dogs. They crave human attention and need to feel as though they are part of the family. Labs are easily trained. These dogs are watchdogs, not guard dogs, although some have been known to guard. They have a life expectancy of 10-12 years.
