We got these wonderful puppies from our local animal control where they were begging for love. They are great balls of energy and are looking for a home with kids.

Foster Update:  It has been wonderful fostering Clip!  He knows how to sit, lay down, and give his paw and will do those commands consistently.  We have been practicing wait and come a lot and he is doing very well with those. We are also starting to work on go to bed, off, leave it, and loose leash walking.   These are new commands still, but he is starting to get the hang of them. He is very trainable. Potty training is going well. He definitely follows the lead of my dogs with it and doesn't signal to go out on his own yet, but I don't think he is too far from doing that. His chewing is minimal as long as he has access to appropriate toys. He still whines a little when you put him in his crate to leave, but I'm confident he will get used to it soon. Hes a bit shy, but is gaining confidence daily.  He plays very well with other dogs and loves to go to the dog park.  With adequate exercise he is very clam in the house.  He's a very sweet puppy and loves everyone that he meets!

Foster Update: I can't believe we still have clip! He is such a wonderful and sweet puppy! Full of fun and always wagging his tail. He has fit right in with our dogs and all the dogs he meets at the dog park and he becomes instant friends with everyone he meets (he's especially fond of kids!). He's so trainable. All he wants to do is please you. He knows sit, lay down, paw, turn (a 360 spin), high five, off, come, drop it, leave it, and wait (his release word is "okay").He also knows to sit and wait until I say "okay" to eat his food and to wait for the okay to get out of the car. He knows when we are in the kitchen and I tell him "out" that he needs to go and sit behind the boundary I have taught him. He knows "go to bed" to get in his kennel and is 100% kennel and potty trained. He does well with loose leash walking on a harness, and is getting better with just the collar. He loves to fetch, play with toys, and chew on bones. He doesn't chew on anything inappropriate and is great about sharing his food, bones, and toys both with people and other dogs. He's a great size too, and I don't anticipate him getting significantly bigger. He is such a lover and is going to make his family very happy!

General Information about Hound Dogs
All of the dogs listed below belong to the collection of dogs referred to as Hound Dogs. As implied by its name Hound Dogs have been bred to chase (or hound) a quarry by sight or smell, or a combination of both senses. Sighthounds have exceptional eyesight, combined with the speed and stamina necessary to catch the intended prey once seen, typical examples being the Greyhound and the Whippet. Hounds which rely strongly on the sense of smell to follow the trail of a prey, such as the Bloodhound, quite literally follow their noses, speed and eyesight is of less importance.

Characteristics and features have been introduced and strengthened by breeding from animals who already demonstrated the desired traits. Breeding for appearance was only introduced in the 19th Century. Before this time dogs and puppies were bred to increase useful abilities and traits helpful for the duties they were intended for. Thus, the various hound breeds were initially introduced to help man according to specific requirements such as hunting and running, flushing out and driving game, vermin hunting, guard duties and tracking.

In this day and age only a few hounds still undertake these tasks, but nevertheless, they still harbour the skills and characteristics that made the original Whippet dog breeding program successful. The Hound Breed Group of dogs differ in that some hunt by scent and others by sight. Many hounds are kept in packs, in outdoor kennels. Any dogs and puppies belonging to the Hound breeds require a significant amount of exercise as they have high stamina levels suitable for hunting quarry. There are some breeds in this group who make a distinctive ' baying ' sound - invaluable information should be considering puppies.
