Description:

This beautiful girl was found wandering around a staff member's neighborhood. But Nakeita is not just another pretty face! She is super friendly and loves people. She loved getting a bath--that tail didn't stop wagging the entire time (which made it tricky to wash!)  She is just as sweet as she looks! She doesn't quite know how to play, and she is definitely not the dog for an active family. She is fine with a five minute walk and then back to the house! She loves to be near you all the time. She is a big cuddle bug. She loves other cats and dogs. She isn't very high energy and as such would be a great dog for someone looking for a slow paced dog. She is a shedder! So be prepared! But with that smile, who could resist? If you want a dog to sleep with you, chill on the couch, and be a totally polite, quiet lover, this is the dog for you!  We know you will love Nakeita!

It is believed that Samoyeds have been bred and trained in the steppes of Siberia for over 3,000 years. Recent DNA analysis of the breed has led to the Samoyed's being included amongst the fourteen most ancient dog breeds. Samoyeds were typically used for sledding and herding, and the dense, double layer coat kept the dogs and their owners warm. They are diligent watch dogs and will bark when anyone enters their territory. However, their friendly nature makes them very poor guard dogs. They are well-behaved on the leash but need to be trained not to pull the owner along. Happy and alert, the Samoyed remains playful into old age, and is an excellent family pet. Sometimes when playing, especially with small children, his herding instincts will come out and he will try to move "his" humans in another direction. The undercoat sheds heavily only once or twice a year, but the fine hairs on the top coat will decorate your clothing year round. The breed is susceptible to hip dysplasia, which can be painful but is treatable. They have a life expentency of around 13-16 years.
