Herekitty got her name when she came into my backyard as a stray. That was the name she responded to, and it stuck. Even the vet gets a laugh out of it, but no one forgets her. She must have been someone's pet at one time because she used the litter box immediately and was not afraid to be approached. Herekitty is very shy and does not like to be petted or to receive a lot of TLC. She brought six kittens to me, as she needed some help feeding and loving on them. She is small, shy and probably had a tough life until she came to my house as she was very, very thin.
She has acclimatized to indoor living very well, but will sit on the windowsill watching the birds and squirrels for hours. She has been a very good Mom to her litter. She is protective, but has taught them the basics very well. She has a good appetite, but doesn't seem to gain weight (wouldn't we all like that metabolism?). She loves "kitten milk" and takes her vitamins mixed in with that.
The Bengal cat is a fairly new breed, the result of careful breeding between the offspring of the Asian Leopard cat and several domestic breeds (Abyssian, Burmese, American Shorthair, and Egyptian Mau.) However, only the wild cat look is left in the breed, and they have the gentle, friendly temperament of their housecat ancestors. Bengals are extremely intelligent, and can be taught some commands. This is a very active breed that loves to be at the center of whatever its people are doing. They also love water and will play with the water in their dishes--or even try to follow you into the shower! This is a breed that will get along with other pets and children, once it gets to know and trust them.
