Wendy was found wondering around as a stray in sanford. She is so beautiful, she looks like some sort of spaniel mix. Im not totally sure what she is but she is cute and sweet!
Foster Update: Wendy is a very cheerful dog. She loves to explore and when outside she actually likes to jump and frolic like a deer. It is so cute. She is very unique in that she likes to lay down when she eats. She is about ten pounds underweight but has a good appetite and should soon be to her normal weight. Wendy likes to snuggle other dogs. Our family has a great dane and Wendy’s preference is to be as close to him as possible. She always manages to maneuver her way under his chin or against his stomach. She is curious about our cat. She has only once barked at her. She likes to watch her out of curiosity. Wendy could fit into most any family dynamic. She loves my kids. She loves going on walks and is easy for them to walk. She does not pull on the leash but she is excited to get where she is going. My seven year old daughter can easily walk her. Wendy is not completely house trained but we are working on that. If taken out on a regular basis she is good to go. So far she has not had an accident in her crate. She also knows sit and lay but only likes to perform for treats.
According to www.dogbreedinfo.com, this is the founder of all the English hunting spaniels. During the Renaissance, it was considered the ideal companion for the European hunter. Its popularity in America began in 1700. The Springer Spaniel gets its name from his method of flushing game: he springs forward to drive birds out of hiding. This breed hunts well both on land and water and is good at work in brush. He also is a fine retriever. The English Springer Spaniel's merry, gentle personality makes him an ideal family dog. His talents are hunting, tracking, retrieving, watchdogging, agility, competitive obedience, and performing tricks. Most English Springers are even-tempered, gentle, friendly, and sociable dogs that are great for kids. Intelligent, skillful, willing and obedient. Playful, energetic and a quick leaner. Merry, brave and sweet tail-waggers. Cheerful and courageous. It is affectionate, good natured and sincere, this dog loves everyone. Springers do best when they are with people as much as possible. They can get into trouble if left alone too long. They love water and may constantly get themselves wet and muddy. Usually they are good with other pets with the possible exception of birds. Sometimes argumentative with same sex dogs. This breed can be destructive and bark a lot if left alone. Springers need wise guidance through what is called their "teenage" time. Some are high-energy and they are all intelligent. They need a soft, but firm hand so they always know who is in control. There are two types of Springers - field and bench. The field type are bred for hunting and field trial work. They tend to have more white coat than the bench type, much less hair, and are more high energy. The bench type are bred for conformation shows and have more liver or black than white, they have much more coat, but are usually calmer. They have a life expectancy of 12-14 years.
