About Gabby the Bulldog | |
Gabby and her daughter Rapunzel were being neglected by their owner. She had several litters and her owner kept allowing her to get pregnant. A concerned volunteer took the dogs in and Gabby is now spayed and ready for adoption! Gabby does great with other dogs, even many at once. She is shy when meeting new people but once she gets to know you she is putty in your hands. She knows Sit and is very well behaved and obedient. She's great in the car as well as on leash.
Foster Update: Gabby is a loving girl; she is as loyal of a dog as I’ve ever had. She follows you wherever you go. If you’re looking for a best friend, believe me you’ve found one in her. In the morning she likes to play by nibbling at your hand gently in hopes of a playful response from you. Gabby is a good watch dog; if anyone walks by my home I know about it, but that’s the only time she ever barks. Gabby is house trained. She only had a few accidents the first few days, which was amazing based upon her initial life. Gabby comes from a lousy past, so please be patient with her for the first few days and you will have a truly great friend. She likes other dogs and people, but again, she needs a little time to warm up.
According to www.dogbreedinfo.com, the French bulldog originated in 19th century England, where lace makers wanted miniature, companion versions of the English bulldog. When they took their craft to France, they also took their dogs--which is why they are referred to today as French bulldogs. (At the time, the British were a bit cross, because after all, the dog had originated in England!) The French bulldog is playful, alert and affectionate, and is "the clown" of the dog world. They are friendly towards people in general, and get along well with other dogs. He does need a strong pack leader, though. If he is not behaving, correct him in a calm, firm voice. Most French bulldogs cannot swim, so be careful around water. Like their English cousins, they can be prone to drooling.
