Trip came to us from animal control poor guy was found as a stray at the ripe age of 6 years old! We think he is so sweet and loving! Were hoping someone will want this lovely senior dog!
Foster Update: I just don't know why Trip hasn't been adopted. He is so sweet, laid back, great with people and kids. He is housetrained and doesn't chew. He loves Walks and car rides. I take him to the park nightly and he loves walking beside my while i do laps around the 14 acre park. He likes most dogs but doesn't enjoys young puppies who jump all over him or very large dogs like great danes who tower over him. If a dog approaches him sniffs and walks away so does he. If a huge dog runs full speed up to him and jumps on his face and will growl or bark him back. He has never gotten into a dog fight but he wants his space and i can respect that. Although now that he knows my dogs they play and he allows them to jump, bite and crawl all over him. He is just a perfect dog for someone whom wants a compainion but not all the "bad" habits like jumping, nipping, peeing in the house...because he doesn't do any of that! He continues to excellently with my cats and loves children!
Foster Update: Trip is an amazing dog! He gets along great with my other dogs (one being a mostly blind small breed dog) and great with my 2 cats. He is 100% housebroken and does not chew anything he isn't suppost to. He stays in my home not crated for about 9-11 hours with no problems "holding it". He loves the dog park and enjoys walking with me around the park. He has moderate energy and because i don't have time to walk him like i should he goes to the dog park in the evenings for about 1.5 hours and gets his energy out that way. He enjoys traveling in the car and is very quiet and laid back in the car. He is a older guy so after out 1-2 hour walks at the park he will have a slight limp..but seems to recover the next morning fine. He is taking a non steriod aniti-imflamatory medications called Meloicam which costs about $4.50 per month. I also give him over the counter Glucosamine supplement daily.
Trip qualifies for our Seniors for Seniors program! If adopted by a senior (55+) his adoption fee is $75.
***According to dogbreedinfo.com, in April 1899, Capt. Max von Stephanitz registered a dog named Horan as the first Deutsche Schäferhunde, which means German Shepherd Dog in English. Known for their tremendous loyalty and courage, they are calmly confident, but not hostile. This breed needs his people and should not be left isolated for long periods of time. They only bark when it is necessary. Serious and almost human in his intelligence, they have a high learning ability. The breed is so intelligent and learns so readily that it has been used as a sheepdog, guard dog, in police work, as a guide for the blind, in search and rescue service, and in the military. The German Shepherd also excels in many other dog activities including schutzhund, tracking, obedience, agility, flyball, and ring sport. His fine nose can sniff out drugs and intruders, and can alert handlers to the presence of underground mines in time to avoid detonation, or gas leaks in a pipes buried 15 feet underground. A quick daily brushing is best unless hair in the house is not a problem. They should be bathed rarely, only once or twice a year to avoid skin oil depletion. Shepherds have a life expectancy around 13 years.
