Dash the sweet little Dachshund is looking for a forever home! He is a sweet little guy and we want the best for him! Are you that home?  Dash also had a dental done when he was getting neutered! He is all polished up and ready to go!

Foster Update 06/26/11: Dash has adjusted well to the family. He is a very loving and affectionate dog. Lots of energy for his age. He enjoys being in our laps and being petted. He is a "talker". Likes to growl and wine to get our attention when he wants to go outside. He will also alert you if someone is at the door or comes in and out of the house. He is good at bath time. He plays with his squeaky toy occasionally. He rides well in the car. He is such a cutie. He knows the sentence "do you have to go potty".  He has been a joy to foster. He will make a good family pet.

Foster Update 6/13/11:  Dash is a very loving and affectionate dog. He is very playful for his age. He follows me around everywhere and enjoys playing with his squeaky toy and sitting on the couch relaxing. Dash is potty trained; he lets you know he has to go by growling and getting your attention, he will even tap your leg if you keep ignoring him.  He sleeps through the night in his crate. I had tried seeing if he wanted to sleep with me, but around 11:00pm he wanted to jump down from the bed so I put him in his crate for the rest of his night. He gets along well with my dog. He loves to get under the covers and hide and has tons of blankets that he came home with. He has been a joy to foster!

Dash qualifies for our senior for senior program, if adopted by a senior (55+) her adoption fee is $75.

According to www.dogbreedinfo.com, the Dachshund (pronounced dak sund) originated in Germany many hundreds of years ago. "Dachs" is the word for badger. The Dachshund was bred to hunt and follow these animals to earth, gradually becoming highly evolved, with shortened legs to dig the prey out and go down inside the burrows. Smaller Dachshunds where bred to hunt hare and stoat. Dachshunds have many "terrier" characteristics. They are versatile and courageous dogs and have been known to take on foxes and otters, besides badgers. Lively and affectionate; proud and bold, almost rash. Tenacious. Can be willful and clownish. Curious and mischievous, they are very clever and may attempt to train the owner rather than allow the opposite. Devoted to his family, some fanciers feel the long-haired variety is calmer than the other two types. The wire-haired variety is more outgoing and clown-like. All are slightly difficult to train. Dachshunds are good dogs to travel with. They are best with older, considerate children and are moderately protective. These little dogs like to bark (their barks are surprisingly loud for their size) and are compulsive diggers. They are generally okay with other pets, however, they can be jealous, irritable, obstinate and very quick to bite. Sometimes they will refuse to be handled. They should not be over fed, for this breed tends to gain weight quickly. They have a life expectancy of 12-15 years.ch
