6/22 Update:  Wow, what a great puppy!!  I have had the pleasure of spending the past week and 1/2 in camp with Klimt.  He has a wonderful temperament and does well around children, dogs, etc.  He knows sit, stay, out of sight recall, down and settle commands.  He has been to Waterford Lakes Town Center several times to be introduced to distractions.  Each time, he has done a great job.  He is a little shy at first, but once he bonds with you it will be for life.  He bonded with his camper in only a few days and they have a great relationship.  He will make a wonderful companion.

Update 6/11 -  PRBJ Puppies Go To Camp!

PRBJ puppies, Van Gogh and Klimt were selected to attend Camp Doglando - a kids camp where rescued puppies are paired up with campers.  The puppies will be learning socialization skills, handling skills such as getting their nails clipped, ears cleaned, etc., and will start learning basic training skills.  The kids will be learning about rescues, dog handling skills, responsible pet ownership, etc. If you are interested in meeting Van Gogh or Klimt, just fill out an application and one of our volunteers will contact you
.

Here is some information about Camp Doglando:

This 2 week summer camp offers youths ages 10-15 the opportunity to learn how to dog responsibly! Starting with what qualities to look for in a pet and working through how and where to acquire the “right” dog campers will then experience first hand what is involved in caring for and training a puppy all in an effort to increase understanding of what a dog needs to live a happy healthy life as a companion. Over the course of the two-week camp, participants will be actively preparing puppies to be adopted into awaiting forever homes.  This camp is a must for kids who have wanted a dog, and parents who are not so sure their child is ready. We will provide the unique opportunity for kids to work in teams training and caring for a specific dog on a daily basis; learning what it means to be a prepared and responsible pet parent.

Klimt and his siblings all came from a high kill shelter.  Most of the litter do not look much like Great Pyrenees, but their mother was one, so we know they are at least 1/2 Great Pryrenees, as for dad? Who knows?? They were covered in fleas, dirty and in need of some antibiotics for skin infections! They have since been taken care of and are ready for adoption! Were hoping we find wonderful forever homes for these beautiful giants!

Klimt was named after artist, Gustav Klimt.  His most famous work is called, "The Kiss."

The Great Pyrenees is a capable and imposing guardian, devoted to its family, and somewhat wary of strangers - human or canine. They are often used to guard livestock. When not provoked, it is calm, well- mannered, and somewhat serious. Courageous, very loyal and obedient. Gentle and affectionate with those he loves. Devoted to family even if self-sacrifice is required. It is very gentle with its family and children. It does best with children when it is raised with them from puppyhood, and if they are not being used as working flock guards be sure to socialize them well with people, place and noises. It has an independent nature, and may try to dominate a less secure or meek owner, and/or an owner who treats the dog as if he is a human , becoming stubborn or terrieral . Owners need to be firm but calm, confident and consistent with the dog. Setting rules the dog must follow and sticking to them. A serious worker, but very independent. Be patient when training the Great Pyrenees, as it may be slightly difficult. The Great Pyrenees is good with non-canine animals, and usually loves cats. These dogs do not reach maturity until they are about 2 years old. Some are not good off the leash and may wander away.  The Great Pyrenees tend to bark a lot and some tend to drool and slobber.
