Description:

Patches came to us from a high kill shelter...she is such a sweet and loving dog! All love and affection!

Foster Update:

P is for Punctuality.  If you go to the freezer to get ice, it is guaranteed that Patches will be there in 2 seconds for ice.  She loves ice!

A is for Awesome, Amazing, Abundant with love.

T is for Tail Wagging.  She has not stopped wagging her tail since she arrived at our home.  She will greet you at the door, tail wagging, as if you are the best person on earth.

C is for Companion.  She will never leave your side.  She wants to be close and loved.

H is for Hopeful.  She is hopeful that she will find a forever home.

E is for Enriching.  She has enriched the life of our dog.  She plays so well with him.  They will even snuggle together on there beds.

S is for Spa Girl.  She is not a fan of a bath, but she does not mind have her hair blown dry.

Volunteer Update:  PATCHES attended the PetSmart event today.  She rode freely in the back seat of my truck and was great!  At the event, her Doglando socialization skills showed!  PATCHES is very outgoing and greeted all people and animals that came by. She loves having her belly rubbed and enjoyed lounging in the laps of volunteers.  PATCHES is lovable and gets right in your face to give kisses.  She is a very strong girl and families with young kids need be aware of her energy and strength-she loved all the attention from the kids she met today and was very lovable towards them, but she is quite animated and energetic. She allows toys and food to be taken readily from her mouth. PATCHES, true to the Pointer breed, does not miss a thing and follows with her eyes and nose, for sure. Any scrap of food (or dust-bunnies) was hers for the examining. She also followed the toys carefully and wanted whatever toy the other dogs were playing with. PATCHES is very food and attention driven and this is easily used in training.  She takes food gently from hands and know to sit and give paw for treats. She would be a great addition to any active family wanting to add to their pack and would enjoy another canine companion to play and wrestle with. PATCHES loves her people and definitely wants to be apart of her new family's activities.

Foster Update:  I am normally a small dog foster mom, but when Patches looked at me with her sweet eyes, I melted. I found myself putting that big old crate in my car and we were off! Patches has made sure that I have had no regrets! She has been an awesome houseguest!! She is potty trained, she is great with my kids, and she loves other dogs. We have taken her to the dog park more than once, and she has yet to find a dog she doesn't like! She is very affectionate... in fact, she thinks she is a lap dog.  She will crawl into your lap if you let her! (And yes, I let her!!) Patches will make her forever family very happy - no doubt about it!

Foster Update:  Patches is an awesome dog!  She is intelligent, gentle and affectionate and great with children and other dogs.  If you have a backyard that has an occasional lizard or squirrel in it, she will be in heaven.  I have never heard a single bark or growl come from her, so your neighbors will love her, too!  I can't say enough good things about this girl!  She is definitely a great addition to any family.

Foster Update:  Patches is amazing.  She is our family’s favorite and easiest foster so far.  As in her last update, I have to second that she loves to snuggle.  She gets along great with my dog.  They play with each other and once they are done they like to nap.  It is surround sound snoring when sitting between them.  The only time we hear her bark is at the cat.  She just wants the cat to play with her.  She is house trained.  We were gone a little longer one day than expected and came home to no accidents.  On another occasion I left her out of the crate while I was doing yard work.  I came in and to my delight she had not touched anything.  She was just sleeping on a bean bag.  She does know how to sit, shake your hand, and lay down on command and even without treats.  When on the leash, she still pulls, but if you stop walking she immediately sits.  She is absolutely a great dog.

Foster Update: I still think Patches is one of the most amazing dogs I have ever been around.  As my kids say, “She is very sweet and adorable.”  As for cats, we do have one and we have not had issues.  She does however bark at her and acts like she is tough stuff, but she has never touched the cat, except on one occasion she licked the cats face and I think it shocked both of them.  I believe most of it is curiosity and wanting to play, however I would not recommend her being in a family if they have an older or meeker cat.

Foster Update: Patches is fabulous.  She has won the heart of everyone in our family.  She gets along amazingly well with my dog.  The only time she gets defensive is if he steals her bone, otherwise they will drink out of the water bowl at the same time. She does not mind her crate.  I feed her in her crate just to keep her food separate from my dog’s food.  I leave the door open throughout the day and she will often go in there and sleep on her bed.  If I am gone for a while she does like to have a bone or toys in the crate to keep her occupied. We love her and know she will make someone a great companion.

According to www.dogbreedinfo.com, according to the most credible hypothesis, the Pointer was developed two centuries ago by crossing among the Italian Pointer, the Foxhound, the Bloodhound, the Greyhound, the Newfoundland, the Setter, and the Bulldog. This is an almost unbelievable mix, but it certainly has produced an outstanding result. The modern Pointer has existed for about eighty years. The Pointer is named for the motionless stance the dog assumes once he has found game. The direction of the point tells the hunter where the game is hiding. The first recorded mentions of the Pointer in England date from around 1650, when the Pointer was used to find hare for the Greyhound to hunt. By the early 1700's the Pointer became the dog of choice. The Pointer is renowned for his scenting prowess. He works very quickly, covering a lot of ground. The Pointer is particularly good on upland birds, but adapts well to other game. The breed has excellent endurance in warm weather, but is not suited to very cold conditions. Working best on land he is not very comfortable in water. He has a legendary tracking and pointing skills, but is not usually expected to retrieve game. The English Pointer is full of energy and go-power. Loyal and devoted he is a true friend. Kind and patient with children, he is a dashing gentleman. The Pointer is affectionate, intelligent and clean. An energetic and enthusiastic hunter, yet calm at home. Wise and adaptable to every situation. Socialize well at an early age to combat a tendency for timidity. Some can be high-strung. They tend to be a bit willful, distractible and reserved with strangers. It will bark at suspicious noises, but it is not a watchdog. Show lines tend to produce better pets. Field lines are often too active and hunt-oriented to make good pets. Hunting instincts develop early. Puppies, even at eight weeks old, often display pointing behavior. These fairly independent dogs are generally good with other pets and are not usually dog-aggressive. They have a life expectancy of 13-14 years.
