Foster Update 12/4: Well Cocoa is quite the little mom! She has taken over the roll of mom with my other dogs and cat. She grooms them all the time and makes sure they don't get into any trouble at the dog park! She LOVES the dog park and just runs around and plays with everyone! She know her name and comes when i call her...she has also learned sit. We are currenly working on paw. She is such a lover and cuddler! Always up on the sofa or bed with me and she is aways first to me for attention! She stays out in my house all day while i'm away at work. We have had no proablems with chewing or getting into the trash. She is completely house broken too! Not an accident one!

Foster update 11/29: Cocoa is a great dog. She is sweet, playfull and loving. She spent a good part of last night playing with my 8 month old puppy in the back yard. She has gotten along with every person and pet she has meet so far. She pays no attention to my cat..actually i think she is a little scrared of my cat! She loves to cuddle on the sofa with me while i watch TV and most of all she LOVES to sleep in the bed right next to you! She is a little nerves when large people (aka adults) make quick moves towards her head or body but has only reacted to this by backing away or sinking down to the ground. I believe she would do well with a family who maybe had another dog. She likes to play with the dogs but cuddle with the people!

Cocoa is a one year old Black Lab mix little girl. We rescued her and Nala from a shelter. They gave us a note from her former owner who had also surrendered Nala. The note read:
"A little shy but a good dog. Never bit anybody, loves to play out and inside, crate trained. Just say 'Go to bed' and he goes. Good with other dogs, cats. Housebroken."
Well, at least they took the time to write something down.... So Cocoa, who once had a home where she played and romped now is on her own, looking for someone to love her. Could that be you?

*** How familiar are you with the Labrador Retriever? According to www.dogbreedinfo.com, the Labrador Retriever is a loving, affectionate, lovable, patient dog. Once known as the "St John's Dogs," the Labrador Retriever is one of the most popular breeds in the United States. Originally from Newfoundland, Canada the Labrador was trained to jump overboard into the icy waters to haul fisherman's nets to shore. Specimens were brought to England in the 1800's by English ships coming from Labrador, where the dog's fine retrieving instincts were honed and developed. One of the best family dogs and canine companions because of their gentle, loving disposition, the highly trainable Labrador also excels in drug detection, as a guide for the blind, and service dog for the disabled. The breed is also an outstanding obedience and field trial competitor. Highly intelligent, loyal, willing, and high-spirited. Lively and good-natured, they love to play, especially in water - for they love to swim. They have an excellent, reliable, temperament and are friendly, superb with children and equable with other dogs. They crave human attention and need to feel as though they are part of the family. Labs are easily trained. These dogs are watchdogs, not guard dogs, although some have been known to guard. They have a life expectancy of 10-12 years.
