Description: Check out the before and after pictures of Tobie ~ Fifi's did a wonderful job of grooming him! Tobie is an 11 year old Shih Tzu Poodle mix. His owner surrendered him to us because she was moving to New York and can't take him. So instead of being with the family he knows and loves, he's sleeping under my feet at the dining room table. Tobie's vision isn't the greatest. I know he can see, but not perfectly. Yesterday evening he was walking down a dim corridor and walked right into Ralph, my black Bassett/lab mix! I guess he looked like a big shadow! Tobie also has a heart murmer which we are treating with medicine that costs about $20 a month. So let me tell you what I know so far about this dog. He is housebroken and very affectionate. He loves children and perked right up when my kids got home. He also loves men. When my husband and son were playing chess, he went and laid right down next to them. He has obviously been loved and spoiled ~ everytime someone opens a kitchen cupboard, Tobie is right there. I don't know what he thinks he's getting, but he is very optimistic. I'm thinking this fellow got a little taste of everything. I couldn't get him to eat his dry dog food until I dribbled a little hot water on it and sprinkled it with Parmesan cheese (a tip I learned from Mike at Bark Busters). Tobie is a very easy, very pretty, very loving dog. He'd do great in any family setting. As an 11 year old dog, he qualifies for our Seniors For Seniors program ~ $50 adoption fee for senior citizens. This is too sweet of a dog to have to wait too long for a home. Do you have one?
Are you unfamiliar with the Shih Tzu breed? Pronounced SHEET-sue, they are known as alert, spunky, happy and hardy. They are bred with an underbite which gives them a constant "smile." Traditionally, their coat is kept long, with ears blending into the body, distinct mustache, and a top knot secured with a bow. However, in our Florida climate, many are clipped short to relieve them of the heat. An alert watch dog, Shih Tzus like to bark but are usually quiet in the house. Originally from China, they were a favorite of the Imperial Chinese court and so revered that for many years after the Chinese began trading with the West, they refused to sell, or even give away, any of the little dogs. It was not until 1930 that the first pair was imported to England. The life expectancy of Shih Tzus in 16 years.
